アルバム・レビュー：東京事変「音楽」 Album Reviews: ‘Ongaku’ by Tokyo Jihen

　この一週間、ほぼ、これしか聴いていません。飽きるどころか、ますます聴きどころが出てきます。全景を楽しんで、今度は細部を味わっています。フルアルバムとしては、10年ぶりの東京事変によるこの一枚、期待にたがわぬ名盤です。

　I’ve listened almost exclusively to this album for the past week. Far from getting tired of it, I continue to find something new. I enjoyed it overall at first, then I'm relishing the details now. Tokyo Jihen finally released their new album for the first time in ten years as a full album and this is as great as I expected it would be.

　お約束である収録曲名の並びにおけるシンメトリーが、わずかに破られています(勘違いでした。訂正します)はこれまで通りです。5曲目の「黄金比」は13曲中、ちょうど黄金比の位置に置かれています。よくみると、色の対比もみられます。こんな遊び心にもワクワクさせられます。自分が買った初回限定盤には、赤の同盟のシングルCD（タイトル曲に加え、「名実共に」「玉座の罠」、計3曲収録）まで同封してあり、全部で15曲が楽しめるので、思わぬお買い得感を味わえます。

　The names of the tracks are arranged in symmetry as ever. The fifth track called Golden Ratio is placed at the point which makes the golden ratio. On a closer view, you can see some color contrasts. Those things that arouse the playful spirit exhilarates me. I bought the first limited edition and it included the single CD of Red Alliance (in addition to the title song, Sweetie Reasons and The Lost Throne are included, too), so I can enjoy 15 songs in total. It’s a real bargain, isn’t it?

　印象としては、より聴きやすく、バンドとしての更なる進化と深化を感じます。一匹狼の寄せ集めのようなイメージを勝手に持っていますが、狼の群れとしての連携は抜群です。狎れあっていると言えるほど、実は仲良しこよしなのではとまで、勘繰ってしまいます。

　I have an impression that their sounds have become easier to listen to compared to previous ones on the whole, plus, as a band, they also evolved and deepened in some ways. Every one of the members, in my opinion, has an image as a lone-wolf musician, even so as a pack of wolves they have great connections with each other. I even have a feeling that they are actually on really good terms.

　収録曲のどれもこれも、聴けば聴くほど、キャッチーな素性があらわになってきます。先日のMステでは、9曲目の「銀河民」を初披露されていました。改めていいと思いました。最新シングルの緑酒など、サビの部分が心にこびりついて取れません。

　As I continue to listen to this album, I find every single track is catchy in nature. They appeared in Music Station, a TV program, the other day and played the 9^th track called The Galactic Man for the first time. I realized again how good the song was. As for Awakening, the latest single, the chorus part of it is so catchy that I can call it an earworm.

今どきのドラマも面白いぞよ：「コタローは1人暮らし」の感想 Current Dramas Are Still Enjoyable: My impressions of a drama called‘Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi’

　前回、「最近のドラマにノレずにいます」とか書いたばかりです。でも、ありました。面白いです。ものすごくノレています。テレ朝で土曜夜11時30分から放送されているドラマ、「コタローは1人暮らし」。お勧めされて、第6話から観てみました。すぐに惹き込まれました。

　I just wrote last time, “I can’t get into the mood for recent dramas”. But I found one. It is really worth watching. I’m now into it for sure. The serial drama called ‘Kotaro wa Hitorigrashi (Kotaro lives by himself)’is broadcast at 11:30 p.m. every Saturday on TV Asahi. I was recommended to watch this drama so I gave episode 6 a try. I soon found myself being carried away with it.

　「『子連れ入居禁止』のアパートで、自堕落な日々を送る売れない漫画家・狩野進（かりの・しん）。ある日突然、隣の部屋に何やら訳アリな1人暮らしの5歳児・さとうコタローが引っ越してきて――。」

　“Karino Shin, an unsuccessful cartoonist leading a self-indulgent way of life, lives in an apartment which is supposed to accept only people without children. One day, a mysterious boy named Sato kotaro who is 5 years old moves into the apartment next to Karino, then…….”

　無表情なコタローですが、なぜか殿様言葉で話します。狩野の部屋を訪ねた際に言った言葉は、「隣に引っ越してきたさとうと申す。以後、お見知りおきを」というものでした。腰には常におもちゃの刀を差し、なぜか高級ティッシュを普段使いにしています。あまりに可愛らしいコタローの言動に、まず笑顔になること必至です。しかし、お話が進むにつれ、彼を特徴づけているこうしたことの一つ一つが、実は悲しい生い立ちから来ていることを知り、その健気さに胸を打たれることになります。

　Kotaro’s face is always expressionless and he speaks in a lordlike way somehow. What he said when he visited Karino’s room for the first time was, “I am sato. I moved into the next room. I am very glad to make your acquaintance”. He wears a toy sword at his side and, for some reason, uses expensive tissue paper. I’m sure you cannot help smiling at his extremely adorable way of speaking or acting. However, you’ll soon learn those behaviors, which characterize Kotaro, are the result of the sadness he has experienced as the story develops and end up being strongly moved.

　コタローを演じている子役は、川原瑛都さんという方です。渡辺直美さん主演のドラマ「カンナさーん！」（2017）で彼女の息子役だったと言えば、すぐに思い浮かぶ方も多いのではないでしょうか。彼の愛らしさは圧倒的です。それに劣らず、このドラマを良いものにしているのが、周りの大人たちを演じる俳優さんたちです。特に狩野を演じる関ジャニ∞の横山裕さんの演技が素晴らしいです。第7話における、コタローを思いやる狩野の言動に、恥ずかしいぐらい泣きました。第8話では、狩野自身が、両親を早くに亡くし、伯父と伯母に育てられたことが明らかになり、コタローへの想いの深さにきちんと理由付けがなされます。他にも、生瀬勝久さんや光石研さん、山本舞香さんに、ももクロの百田夏菜子さんと、意外なほど豪華な俳優陣が脇を固めています。

　The child actor who plays Kotaro is Kawahara Eito. The fact that he played the role of the son of Kanna, the main character of a 2017 drama called ‘Kanna san!’ featuring Watanabe Naomi, may ring a bell. He is overwhelmingly adorable. Plus other actors also make this drama better as well as him. Yokoyama Yu, who plays Karino, is particularly good among them. I cried embarrassingly when I saw him trying to be nice to Kotaro in episode 7. In episode 8, the fact that Karino’s parents passed away when he was still young so he was brought up by his uncle and aunt was revealed and the audience learn the reason why he care for Kotaro so much. Besides Yokoyama, unexpectedly famous actors appear in this drama such as Namase Katsuhisa, Mitsuishi Ken, Yamamoto Maika, Momota Kanako from the idol band called Momoiro Clover Z, and so on.

　いいドラマというのは、出演者のことが愛おしく思えるものだと思います。このドラマはまさにそれです。楽しみで、待ち遠しく思えるドラマに出会えて大喜びしています。

　I have a feeling that I tend to have deep affection to the actors in a good drama. This drama is exactly a typical one. I’m really pleased now because I found a drama which is so enjoyable that I feel impatient for the next episodes.

二度見に値するドラマ：「逃げるは恥だが役に立つ」 This Drama series Is Worth Watching Twice: ‘Nigeru wa Haji daga Yaku ni Tatsu’

　アマゾンプライムで観れます。星野源さんと新垣結衣さんご結婚のニュースをきっかけに、改めて視聴しました。本当によくできたドラマです。当時以上に面白がれました。

　You can watch this serial drama on Amazon Prime. The news about the marriage between Hoshino Gen and Aragaki Yui made me feel like watching this drama again, so I did. This drama is surely good. I enjoyed it more than I had done before.

　このドラマを面白くしている最大の要因が、主役の2人の魅力であることは間違いないでしょう。当時、女優としてすでに不動の人気を博していた新垣結衣さんと、アーティストとして人気が急上昇していた星野源さんという、その組み合わせだけでワクワクしたのを覚えています。しかし、2度目の視聴で強く感じたのは、共演者の方たちの素晴らしさです。石田ゆり子さんのあの魅力ときたらどうでしょう。大人の女性としての艶めきはもちろんですが、それ以上に可愛らしさを感じます。古田新太さん、藤井隆さんといった個性的な俳優さんたちもいかんなく本領を発揮されています。

　The main reason that makes this drama so enjoyable is the attractiveness of the two stars for sure. At that time, I remember I was excited by the mere fact that this would be the drama co-starring Aragaki Yui, who was already a famous actor, and Hoshino Gen, who was becoming popular as an artist. However, I was also impressed by the supporting actors this time. How charming Ishida Yuriko was. She was surely coquettish as an adult but also cute even more. Some individualistic actors like Furuta Arata, and Fujii Takashi, showed what they could do, too.

　さて、契約結婚という、特殊な関係にあるみくり（新垣結衣）と平匡（星野源）ですが、ここで浮き彫りになるのは、むしろ通常の夫婦関係というものの難しさです。契約結婚の間はむしろはしゃいでいた2人ですが、いざ本当の恋人同士になった途端、家事の分担という現実問題で生じる軋轢に悩むことになります。ハッピーエンドを期待させる最終回でまず描かれるのは、家庭と仕事の両立に悩み、投げやりな態度さえ見せるみくりの姿です。しかし、それを受け止め、真摯に向き合おうとする平匡の姿に涙があふれました。

　In this drama, the marriage between Mikuri (Aragaki Yui) and Hiramasa (Hoshino Gen) is fake, because he just hires her as a maid, but what is highlighted here are the difficulties in  relationship between ordinary couples. They rather enjoy themselves while they pretend to be married but once they fall in love with each other, they begin to be troubled by a real-life problem, the division of household chores. What is depicted first in the last episode, which is supposed to be just a happy ending, is Mikuri showing even a devil-may-care attitude due to the distress caused by juggling a job and housework unsuccessfully at the same time. However, I was eventually moved to tears when I saw Hiramasa trying to accept her for what she is and deal with her problem seriously.

　こんなこという自分がいやですが、昨今のドラマにノレずに困っています。何が原因か特定できません。自分の感受性の問題かもしれません。5年も前のこのドラマに感じたのは、心から共感できる価値観でした。やっぱりそれが大切だと思えてしょうがありません。

　I hate to say it, but I can’t get into the mood for recent dramas. I don’t know the reason. It might be a problem of my sensibility. What I felt towards this drama, which was broadcast five years ago, was the sense of values that I could empathize with from the bottom of my heart. I cannot help feeling that is the most important thing in watching dramas.

サイクリングの喜び：ノーパンク自転車を買いました The Delights of Cycling: I bought a bicycle featuring No Puncture Tires

　休日の楽しみが増えました。早朝や夕方のサイクリングです。体力維持のために何かしたいと、ここ数年、水泳やウォーキングを始めてはみるものの、案の定続けられずにいました。子どもの頃、自転車に乗るのが好きだったことを思い出して、ネットで自転車を検索してみると、ある言葉に惹かれました。「パンクしない折りたたみ自転車」です。迷った末に購入してしまいました。

　I’ve recently gotten another holiday pleasure. I go cycling early in the morning or in the evening on weekends. I’ve been feeling like keeping up my strength for these past several years so I had started several things like swimming, walking and so on, but couldn’t continue any of them for sure. I remembered that I liked to go cycling in my childhood so I searched some online shopping sites for bicycles and I was intrigued by the following phrase, “Folding Bicycle with No Puncture Tires”. I finally placed an order for it after thinking it over for a while.  

　商品名は「PANGAEA（パンゲア）」。ホイールサイズは16インチ、ギアもサスペンションもない、本当にシンプルな自転車です。価格は1万3千円ほどでした。組み立ては簡単ですぐに終わりました。実際に乗ってみるとノーパンクタイヤが、路面の凹凸を直に伝えてくるのが分かります。それでも舗装した路面で乗るには、全く問題ありません。

　The product's name is ‘PANGAEA’. It features 16 inch wheels and is so simple that it doesn’t have either a gearshift or shock absorbers. The price was thirteen thousand yen. It was easy to assemble. I rode it and soon felt that the no puncture tires directly convey the bumps in the road. Even so, it is comfortable enough to go down paved roads.

　購入したのは1月でした。この4か月間、休日と早く帰れた平日、平均して週に2，3回は乗っています。時間が経つにつれ、ノーパンクタイヤのありがたみを実感しています。今のところ全くメンテナンスフリーです。初めは家の周りの住宅街で満足していたのが、だんだんと足を延ばしてみると、海沿いにサイクリングにぴったりな道を見つけました。1キロ以上続く直線道路からは、穏やかな大村湾の眺めが楽しめます。郊外にありがちな大型店舗が並ぶ国道の、裏側を走っているこの道には、ウォーキングや釣りを楽しむ人の姿も見られます。およそ4.5ｋｍ程度のルートですが、家に戻った時には、気持ちよく汗をかいています。ちっぽけな自転車のおかげで自分の世界が広がった気がして喜んでいます。

　I bought the bicycle in January. These past four months, I’ve ridden it on holidays and some weekdays when I went home early, so I ride it two or three times a week on average. I’m realizing how useful the no puncture tires are as time goes by. I can say this is surely a maintenance-free bicycle for the time being. At first, I was satisfied with riding around the neighborhood, then I tried to go further away and ended up finding a nice path for cycling along the shore. I can enjoy the nice view of the calm Omura bay from the straight path which is over a kilometer long. The path runs behind the national road, which is a typical suburban one where a lot of large stores stand in a row, and you can see some people walking or fishing there. The route I usually take is about 4.5 kilometers long and I sweat enough to feel refreshed when I go back home. The bicycle is so small but it really makes me feel good because it opened up a new world to me.

長崎の夜景をより楽しめるレストラン：「フォレスト」（ガーデンテラス長崎内） A Restaurant Where You Can Fully Enjoy the Night View in Nagasaki: “FOREST” (located in a hotel called Garden Terrace Nagasaki)

　地元の人間にとって見慣れているはずの夜景が、ここから見ると見違えるように、新鮮な輝きを放っています。普段使いには高級すぎるこのフレンチレストランですが、身内のお祝いでディナーに出かけました。

　Although the night view is familiar to local people in Nagasaki, somehow it looked brighter than usual, and I even felt something new to me when I look down upon it from there. This restaurant is so expensive that I’ve been there only a few times before, and this time I went there because there was something to celebrate with my family.  

　自分が頂いたのは、「“長崎牛”サーロインのステーキ」でした。まず、地元の山海の幸を生かした前菜にワクワクします。一つ一つの量の少なさが、かえって食欲を掻き立てます。食べ終わったところにスープと小ぶりのパンが来ました。オリーブオイルの小皿も用意してあり、焼きたてのパンをちぎって染み込ませると、美味しさがさらに引き立ちます。そうしているうちにいよいよ主役のステーキのお出ましです。お肉の上には、レモンの輪切りにバジル入りのバターがたっぷり載っています。一口目、容赦なく美味いです。それだけではすぐに飽きが来るサーロインですが、付け合わせの焼き野菜がいい仕事をしてくれます。デザートも美味しくて大満足でした。

　What I had this time was ‘A sirloin steak of ”Nagasaki Beef”’. First, I was excited with the hors d’oeuvre which were made from various kinds of local ingredients. They were small in quantity so that my appetite grew even more. When I finished them, the soup and some buns were served. There was olive oil in a small plate and it made the fresh-baked buns all the more delicious when I dipped the pieces of buns in it. After that the sirloin steak, the main course, was finally served. It was garnished with a round slice of lemon which was topped with a lump of butter mixed with basil. I took one mouthful, and it was so delicious. It was a sirloin steak, which I tend to be soon tired of, but the fried vegetables went well with it so there was no problem. The dessert was also good and I was more than satisfied.

　ふと窓辺に目を移すと、夜景の美しさにしばらく見とれました。以前は、いつも物足りなく感じていたこの地方の町ですが、今ではとても愛おしく思えています。このレストランが入っているのは稲佐山の中腹にある、ホテル＆リゾート施設「ガーデンテラス長崎」です。このフレンチレストランのほかに、創作料理や鮨、鉄板焼きのお店も入っています。コロナ騒ぎが収まって、長崎に来られた際にはぜひ立ち寄ってほしい場所です。

　When I happened to look out the window, I ended up being fascinated by the beautiful night view. I was not satisfied with this small town before, but for some reason I love Nagasaki very much now. This restaurant is located in the resort hotel called ‘Garden Terrace Nagasaki’, which is halfway up Mt. Inasa. Besides this restaurant, this hotel has several kinds of restaurants one serves original cuisine, and another does sushi, and the other does grilled meat. When this corona pandemic is over, I hope you come and give this place a try.

案の定面白い、でもそれだけじゃないドラマ：ドラマ「愛の不時着」の感想 Sure Enough, This Drama is Enjoyable, But Also Informative: My impressions of the drama called ‘Crash Landing on You’

　このタイトルの味わい深さはどうでしょう。昼ドラ的な響きを一瞬感じながらも、何故かワクワクしてしまいます。NETFLIXのドラマ「愛の不時着」を視聴しました。やっぱり騒がれるだけのことはあります。めちゃくちゃ面白かったです。韓国ドラマ、というだけで敬遠しがちな方もいると思います。でも、このドラマはそんなカテゴリーに収まるものではありません。

　How meaningful the title of this drama is! That sounds a bit melodramatic but somehow I can’t help feeling excited. I watched the NETFLIX drama called ‘Crash Landing on You’. I felt that it deserves its popularity. It was so enjoyable. I guess some people tend to be reluctant to watch this drama just because it is a Korean drama. However, you can’t categorize this drama so easily.

　令嬢の名はユン・セリ、将校の名はリ・ジョンヒョクです。セリを何とか韓国へ無事に帰還させようとするジョンヒョクですが、叶うべくもない恋と知りながら、2人は心を通わせてしまいます。こう書くと、従来の韓国ドラマにありがちな、深刻ぶった悲恋の物語に聞こえます。しかし、このドラマは、明るさを基調としていて、ユーモアに溢れています。セリとジョンヒョクのやりとり自体、可笑しみがあって笑顔になります。そして、2人を取り巻く人々のキャラ立ちが本当に素晴らしく、しばしば吹き出しながら、たまらなく彼らが愛おしくなりました。また、韓国ドラマのベタな設定を揶揄するような場面が、随所にあるのも面白く感じました。

　The lady’s name is Yoon Se-ri and the captain’s name is Ri Jeong-hyeok. Jeong-hyeok tries to get her back to South Korea safely but they end up falling in love despite knowing they shouldn’t. That explanation may make you guess that this drama should be a typical Korean drama, which tend to be a serious, heart breaking story. However, this drama has an undercurrent of cheerfulness and humor. The conversation between Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok is quite humorous and makes me smile, plus the characters of the people around them are so exhilarating that I often burst out laughing and ended up feeling deep affection toward them. Moreover, there are a lot of scenes where they make fun of some typical settings which tend to be seen in Korean dramas, so I was impressed, too.    

　でも、このドラマのそんな明るさこそが、朝鮮半島の現実の厳しさを際立たせます。同じ民族でありながら、互いの行き来が生死にかかわるという隣国の現状を思い知り、涙が出ました。そこにいたる経緯に全く無関係とは言えない立場に、日本人はいるはずです。

　As a matter of fact, such cheerful atmosphere highlights the harsh reality in the Korean peninsula. Despite the fact that they are of the same race, it’s fatal to pass across the border, and when I came to think of it, tears rolled down my cheeks. We Japanese cannot say that we have nothing to do with their history.

　このドラマの結末は本当に意外です。脚本の上手さに唸りました。絶対にネタバレ禁止です。まだ観ていない方はぜひ。

　The ending of this drama is really unpredictable. I was impressed by the script. It will surely spoil your fun to talk about it. I recommend you to watch this drama if you haven’t yet.

エビ中の第3章始まる！：メジャーデビュー9周年記念オンラインライブの感想 The Third Chapter of Ebichu Has Started!: My Impressions of Their Online Concert Marking the 9th Anniversary of Major-Label Debut

　幸せな1日でした。5月5日に配信されたエビ中のメジャーデビュー9周年記念ライブは、昼と夜の二部から成る構成でした。

　I was so happy on that day. Their online concert, which marked their 9^th anniversary of major-label debut, was streamed on May 5^th and consisted of two parts, in the afternoon and evening.  

　「エビの踊り食いproduced by安本彩花」と題された1部ですが、まずステージに登場したメンバーの衣装に目を見張りました。それは「ファミえん令和元年」で使用されたものでした。セットリストはそのタイトル通り、安本彩花さんによる選曲です。

　The title of the first part was“Ebi no Odorigui produced by Yasumoto Ayaka”, and I was surprised at the stage costume as soon as they appeared. It was the one used in the concert called ‘Famien Reiwa Gan-nen’ in 2019. The setlist was composed of the songs chosen by Yasumoto Ayaka, as in the title.

　理想のセトリです。遠慮なくアゲアゲな曲ばかりです。安本彩花さんの元気が爆発しています。曲の合間には「初デートに誘う胸キュンセリフ」で競い合う場面もあり、柏木ひなたさんの「ヤスにやってもらうからね！」の言葉にワクワクしました。

　The setlist was an ideal one for me. All the songs were surely energetic ones. I strongly felt the cheerful character of Yasumoto Ayaka by them. Between the songs, there was a scene where they compete with each other in coming up words to ask someone for a date, and I was excited when I heard Kashiwagi Hinata say, ‘I’ll make Yasu do this!’.   

　第2部のタイトルは「初夏のエビ増量キャンペーン」。この増量とは、新メンバー加入を意味しています。セトリはなんと、これまでのシングル曲リリース順というものでした。両A面シングルの「大人はわかってくれない」と「禁断のカルマ」を除いたシングル全18曲が披露されました。今、脱皮を前にして、これまでのエビ中の歴史を俯瞰するようなセトリです。MCのたびに、「新メンバーの発表はこのあとすぐ！」などの焦らし台詞をいれてくるのに笑顔になりました。同時に、このメンバーだけでのパフォーマンスはいよいよ見納めなんだと実感して少し切なくもなりました。

　The title of the second part was ‘Shoka no Ebi Zoryo Campaign’. “Zoryo” means adding new members. The setlist were comprised of all of their singles in order of releasing time. They performed 18 numbers but there were two singles that weren’t performed and the two were from the double-A-side singles, ‘Otona wa Wakattekurenai’ and ‘Kindan no Karma’. I felt as if they were reviewing their own history before shedding their shells. At every MC, they repeatedly said, ‘We’ll soon introduce the new member to you!’, teasing us and I ended up smiling. However, at the same time, I felt a little bit lonely because I realized that this was the last chance to see them perform with the six members.  

 　案の定、新メンバーの紹介は、第2部の終わりでした。正直、新メンバーは一人だけだと勝手に思っていました。驚いたことに、ステージに登場したのは3人でした。新メンバーは、桜木心菜さん、小久保柚乃さん、風見和香さんです。自分が予想した方は入っていませんでした。自分にとっては意外な結果でしたが、もう応援する気満々です。9人体制での始動は、8月21日に開催予定の「ファミえん」との発表もありました。その日が待ちきれません。

　The introduction of the new member was done at the end of the second part as I had thought it would be. Frankly speaking, I had thought that only one member would join. However, to my surprise, three new members appeared on the stage. The name of the new members are Sakuragi Kokona, Kokubo Yuno, and Kazami Nonoka. My prediction was wrong and there wasn’t the candidate who I had thought would join. The result was a surprise for me, but I’m already on their side. They announced at the end of the concert that the new Ebichu with 9 members is going to start at the summer concert called ‘Fami-en’ planned to be held on August 21^st. I can’t wait the day.
