続いて、音楽プロデューサーとはどんな仕事かという問いに対し、「アーティストの思いをかなえる仕事です」と亀田さんは答えました。これは、伴走者として選手のメダルへの思いをかなえる中田さんにも通じるところです。「アーティストの気持ちをくみ取って最高の音楽を作る」ことを心掛けているという亀田さんは、決まったやり方などないこと、とにかく相手の話をよく聞いて成功へのアプローチを考えることの大切さを語っていました。中田さんも、伴走者として選手の気持ちをくみ取るという点で全く同じことが言えると共感していました。
Then Nakata asked Kameda what the job as a music producer is like, and he answered, “It is a music producer’s job to make an artist’s dream come true.”. Nakata who is a pacesetter also make an athlete’s dream, winning a medal, come true, so on that point there is the same quality in both jobs. What Kameda makes a point of in his job is, “Taking the artist’s feelings in consideration to produce the best music”, so he has no routine method in doing that and he always tries to listen carefully to what the artist has to say in order to decide the way to achieve success. Nakata empathized on that point again because he has to take the athlete’s feelings as a pacesetter.
それから、亀田さんが音楽の道を志したきっかけは何だったのかが話題になります。「全米トップ４０」というアメリカのラジオ番組をきっかけにポップスにのめり込み、小学5年生から高校2年生まで、自分の部屋でラジオ番組のまねごとをしていたというエピソードが大変興味深かったです。
After that, they talked about why Kameda made up his mind to be a musician. I was really interested in an episode that Kameda used to listen to a radio program called `American Top 40` and ended up being intrigued by pop music so much that he always used to play radio program in his room from the 5th grade through the 11th grade.
椎名林檎さんとの出会いについても言及がありました。他の音楽関係者から、自分たちでは手に負えない新人アーティストがいると紹介されたこと。ジャンルにこだわらない椎名林檎さんの姿勢に大いに共感したこと。「ないがち」を合言葉に曲作りをしていったこと。制作過程では、ヒットは狙わず、結果的についてくるものと信じていたことなど、林檎好きにはたまらない話題が続きました。40歳にして初めてのバンド活動となった東京事変についても、やはり「ないがち」を追求していたことや、自分よりも年下のメンバーから大いに刺激を受けたことなどが語られました。

TOKYO JIHEN, the band he joined in his 40s for the first time in his life, also pursued the same theme “something never happened before” and he was stimulated by other members who are all younger that him.
番組の終わりの方で亀田さんが言った「若い者には抜かれろ」という言葉が心に残りました。亀田さんの姿勢そのものだと感じました。音楽業界、というより日本の音楽の未来そのものを見つめている亀田さんは、これまでもNHKの番組「亀田音楽専門学校」で校長としてヒット曲の秘密を分かりやすく解説しています。今年の7月には、旺文社から亀田さんが監修した「音楽が楽しくなる」という子ども向けの本が出版されています。尊敬の念をますます深くしています。
Kameda said,“You should be overtaken by young talents”, at the end of the program and the words still remains in my mind. I felt it is exactly his own attitude. He is always concerning the music industry, or the future of music in Japan, so he appeared in an educational program called ‘Kameda Ongaku Senmon Gakko’ by NHK in which he played the principal of the music vocational school explaining some secrets of hit songs. He also supervised an educational book for children titled “Ongaku ga Tanoshiku Naru”, published by Obunsha in July this year. Now I respect him all the more.
