エビ中の隠れた名曲⁉：私立恵比寿中学「スターダストライト」 A Little-known Masterpiece by Ebichu: `Stardust Light` by Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku

　「ちゅうおん」（エビ中恒例の秋のライブです）で初めて聴きました。エビ中にとって、メジャーデビュー2枚目のシングル「GoGo!Here We Go!ロック・リー/大人はわかってくれない」（2012）でリリースされた3種類のCDの一つに収録されていた曲のようです。プレイリストに入れて毎日聴いています。

　I heard this song for the first time in their concert called `Chuon`, a regular one they hold in autumn every year. It is contained in their second single CD released from a major label and the title of the CD is `GoGo!Here We Go! Rock Lee/ Otona wa Wakatte Kurenai` (2012), which has three version and this song is in one of them. I've added it to my playlist and enjoy it every day.

 　「ちゅうおん」バージョンは、しっとりと歌い上げるスローなバラードでした。いい曲、と思ってオリジナルを聴いて驚きました。こちらはアゲアゲで編曲のよさが際立っています。歌の合間に入る木管（フルート？）の音がとても気持ちよくて心に残ります。同じ曲とは思えません。どちらもよいです。

　The ‘Chuon’ version of this song is a slow ballad which they sang gently and with great emotion. I found it so good, so I gave the original version a try and ended up being surprised. That’s because it is an up-tempo song with an exquisite arrangement. You may find the sound of the woodwind (a flute?) so good that it will remain in your mind. It is unbelievable that those two are the same song.

　先日、「ちゅうおん」のCDが届きました。あらためてこの曲を聴いてみると、エビ中の8年間の成長が見て取れます。今のエビ中には、どんな曲でも自分たちのものにできるポテンシャルを感じます。安本彩花さんが戻って、6人での新しいアルバムができる日が待ち遠しいです。

　The ‘Chuon’ live CD that I had ordered was delivered the other day. Now I listen to this song again and realize that they have grown through for these eight years. I have a feeling that they have the potential to be able to sing any sort of song whatsoever. I can’t wait to listen to their new album with the full six members after Yasumoto Ayaka coming back some time in the future.

まっすぐな歌：幾田りらさん「ロマンスの約束」 A song with lyrics straightforward: ‘Romance no Yakusoku’ by Lilas Ikuta

　いきなりのボーカルから入るこの曲は、まぶしいくらいの多幸感に満ちています。幾田りらさんの２ndアルバム「Jukebox」に収録されている「ロマンスの約束」は、ウエディングソングと言われても信じてしまうほど、愛の形をまっすぐに歌い上げる曲です。YOASOBIの「夜に駆ける」の歌詞を思うとき、めまいを覚えるほどのギャップを感じます。

　This song which starts with her singing voice is filled with a sense of euphoria. The song called ‘Romance no Yakusoku’, which is contained in Lilas Ikuta’s 2^nd album called ‘Jukebox’, has straightforwardly romantic lyrics so it can be called a wedding song. I’m almost overwhelmed by the huge gap between the lyrics of this song and of the song called ‘Yoru ni Kakeru’ by YOASOBI, the duo that she belongs to.

　いくつかのインタビュー記事や動画を通じて、自分が勝手に抱いている幾田りらさんの人柄は、裏表の無いまっすぐな人、というものです。ともすれば斜に構えてしまいがちな幸せソングなのに、こんなに素直に受け止められるのは、彼女のイメージと何ら矛盾がないからだと思います。それでいて、YOASOBIの楽曲を歌うときに見せるクールな一面もやはり彼女らしさに違いありません。

　The image of what she is like, which I’ve built up in my mind through some interview articles or videos, is that she is not hypocritical but is very honest. I tend to dislike this kind of happy song, but somehow like this one because the lyrics are consistent with my image of her. On top of that, the coolness that she shows when she sings YOASOBI’s songs is also like her for sure.      

　幾田りらさんは、Netflixで10月23日より配信されているアニメーション映画『フェイフェイと月の冒険』の日本語版エンド・クレジット・ソング「ロケット・トゥ・ザ・ムーン～信じた世界へ～」も歌っています。ミュージカル調のこんな曲まで歌ってしまう彼女の、アーティストとしての振れ幅を思うとき、これからの活動の展開がますます楽しみです。

 Lilas Ikuta also sings the song called ‘Rocket to the Moon -Shinjita Sekai e-’, the Japanese version of the end credit song for the movie called‘Over the Moon’ distributed by Netflix on October 23^rd. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she will develop her activities because I realize she can cover a wide range of music genre including musical songs like that.

YOASOBIとの違いにギャップ萌え!？：幾田りらさんのアルバム「Jukebox」 The Difference from YOASOBI’s Songs Makes Hers Attractive Even More: An album called ‘Jukebox’ by Lilas Ikuta

　YOASOBIの「夜に駆ける」が、ビルボードのJAPAN総合ソング・チャートで1位を獲得したことが話題になっています。リリースは昨年の11月、しかもCDでのリリースはなしでの快挙です。自分自身、いまだに飽きてなくて、かかるとワクワクしてしまいます。

　The news that the song called ‘Yoru ni Kakeru’ by YOASOBI topped the Billboard Japan’s Hot 100 has become a national topic of conversation. The song was released as an online exclusive song in November last year without CD version, so it can be said that the achievement is a brilliant feat. As far as I’m concerned, I still can’t get enough of it at all and get exhilarated whenever I hear it even now.

　ボーカルのikuraさんの声があまりにも魅力的なので、このところ彼女のソロアルバムを聴き込んでいました。初めは、YOASOBIとのギャップに驚きました。アコースティックな曲にエモーショナルな歌声、「夜に駆ける」とは正反対のような曲ばかりです。驚きはすぐに喜びに変わりました。彼女は、自分が好きな吉澤嘉代子さんをはじめとした、アコギ1本で勝負できる女性シンガーソングライターの系譜に連なる一人に違いありません。

　The voice of ikura, the vocalist, is so fascinating that I gave her solo album a try and soon got into it. At first, I was surprised by the gap between the songs by YOASOBI and hers. Her songs are quite acoustic and her way of singing is emotional, so I felt that they are the exact opposite of YOASOBI’s. However, the surprise I got first is soon turned into joy. I’m now convinced that she is one of those female singer-songwriters who is appealing enough with a guitar, like Yoshizawa Kayoko, a favorite singer-songwriter of mine.

　自分が聴いているアルバムは、昨年の11月に配信された2^ndミニアルバム「Jukebox」で、次の5曲が収録されています。

　The album I’m listening to is her second mini album called ‘Jukebox’ which contains the following five songs.

　1.「おまじない」 ‘Omajinai’

　2.「通り雨」  ‘Toriame’

　3.「ロマンスの約束」  ‘Romance no Yakusoku’

　4.「ラブレター」  ‘Love Letter’

　5.「真夜中の君と」  ‘Mayonaka no Kimito’

　いいです。やっぱり歌が上手いです。流行りも、個人の好みも超えたよさを感じます。シンプルなアレンジの曲ばかりですが、それだけに楽曲の素性のよさが際立ちます。若者らしい素直な、一切難解なところのない歌詞とメロディーです。

　次回は特に好きな曲について感想を書きたいと思います。

　They are so good. She is a really good singer for sure. Her songs are good enough that they go beyond the trend of music or one’s liking. Every song is arranged in a simple way and that’s the very reason why I can feel the essence of her songs. Her words and melodies are quite simple because they are written in a manner typical of young people without any obscurities.

　I will write about my favorite song in the album next time.

初めての配信映画：YOASOBIが主題歌を歌う「たぶん」 My first introduction to an online exclusive movie: ‘Tabun’ whose theme song is sung by YOASOBI

　新作映画の配信上映を観たのは初めてでした。先日、YOASOBIが歌う「たぶん」が主題歌となっている同名映画を視聴しました。イベント付きの特別配信上映ということで、上映後には日替わりで、出演者やプロデューサーなど映画関係者が登場し、インタビューが行われたようです。自分が観た最終日には、YOASOBIの2人が出演していました。

　It was the first time I watched a newly released movie online. The other day, I watched the movie which has the same title as its theme song called ‘Tabun’ sung by YOASOBI. It was followed by interview shows which featured the people concerned like actors, producers and so on. The day I watched it was the concluding day of the movie run and the interviewees were the members of YOASOBI.     

　映画自体は上映時間40分ほどの短編作品です。登場するのは、3組の恋人たち。互いに交わることはないものの、それぞれの別れの様が描かれます。視聴して感じたのは、主題歌の歌詞がこの物語のエッセンスを見事に反映しているということでした。

　It was a short movie which runs only about 40 minutes. It is a story of three couples. They have no connection whatsoever with each other and this movie depicts how each couple breaks up. I felt that the lyrics of the theme song perfectly reflects the essence of the story.

　改めてこの楽曲の良さを思いました。どんな工夫がされているのでしょう。YOASOBIの楽曲は、飽きることなく何度でも聴くことができます。

　I realized again how good this song is. I have no idea about what they did to make this song so good. I somehow can’t get enough of all the songs by YOASOBI.

　映画の出演者の一人、小野莉奈さんとikuraさんは、中学時代からの親友とのこと。お二人のインタビュー記事も読みました。互いに励まし合いながらそれぞれの場で活躍する中で、このような接点が生まれたこと自体が一つの物語のように思います。上映後のインタビューでは、自然体で話されるikuraさん、Ayaseさんのどちらも大変魅力的でした。また、インタビュワー兼MCを務めたのは、映画の出演者でもあるめがねさんという方でしたが、高校生のときからYouTuberとして活躍されているだけあって、ユーモアたっぷりな進行に惹き込まれました。

　11月28日の配信のみ、明後日12月5日（土）までアーカイブが残されるとのこと。YOASOBIが好きな方にはお勧めです。

　Ono Rina, one of the actors who appears in this film, is a friend of ikura, the singer of the duo, since they were in junior high school. I read an article featuring their interview. The fact that they joined in this movie by chance as each of them are doing the best in their own business, one is a singer and the other is an actor, is already a interesting story. In the interview show after the movie, both ikura and Ayase were so appealing talking in a relaxed manner. The interviewer and MC was an actor called Megane, who has been popular as YouTuber since she was in high school, and I found her quite humorous and good at MCing.

　The content they streamed on Nov. 28^th is available until the day after tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 5^th. I recommend you to watch it if you like YOASOBI.

エビ中ファンには気になるあの人の新曲：吉澤嘉代子「サービスエリア」 A Newly Released Song by the Artist that Fans of Ebichu Can’t Help Being Curious about: ‘Service Area’ by Yoshizawa Kayoko

　つかみどころの無さが魅力です。無数に並んだ引き出しを開くたびに、新しい世界で魅せてくれるのが吉澤嘉代子さんだと思います。11月25日にリリースされた彼女の新曲「サービスエリア」もまた意外性に満ちた、期待を超えてくる良曲です。

　The elusiveness of her songs makes them attractive even more. Whenever Yoshizawa Kayoko shows us her unknown aspects, I'm fascinated by the new world. Her new song called "Service Area" , also shows an unexpected side of her and definitely better than I thought it would be.

　妖しい光と闇を感じる歌詞は、サービスエリアという、日常の中に確かに存在する場所を、輪郭すら捉えがたい異世界のもののように見せてきます。一聴してすぐに惹かれるメロディーも、同様になぜか捉えがたく、形として耳に残るまで何度も聴きなおしました。聴けば聴くほどよさが伝わります。

　The lyrics which is full of magic glow and darkness show us a service area, a place without any particular characteristics which certainly exists in our life, as something mysterious with an ambiguous shape from a different world. I was attracted by the melodies with just a listen but they are also so ambiguous that it took me some time to understand what they are like. The more you listen to it, the more you realize how good it is.

　エビ中ファンとして嬉しいのは、吉澤嘉代子さんがグループに提供してくださった「曇天」が、カップリングとしてセルフカバーされていることです。「曇天」は、自分にとっても、エビ中を好きになるきっかけとなった特別な曲です。

　There’s one thing that I was pleased with as a fan of Ebichu, and it the fact that the song called ‘Donten’, which Yoshizawa wrote for Ebichu, is also contained in the CD. The song is something special for me because it is the very song that makes me interested in Ebichu.

　さらに嬉しい事には、この「サービスエリア」のリリースを記念した特別番組がYouTubeで配信されています。こちらには、吉澤嘉代子さんとともにエビ中メンバーの2人、真山りかさんと小林歌穂さんが出演されていて、1時間以上にわたるトークが楽しめます。これまでに提供した楽曲、「面皰」や「日記」、そして去年開催されたエビ中主宰のフェスも話題に出てきます。こちらは明後日12月3日まで視聴できます。まだの方はぜひ！

　There’s another thing that makes me pleased even more and it is a special program on YouTube commemorating the release of this CD. In the program, Yoshizawa Kayoko appears with two members of Ebichu, Myama Rika and Kobayashi Kaho, and they talk for more than an hour. They mentioned other two songs sung by Ebichu, ‘Nikibi’ and ‘Nikki’, which is also written by Yoshizawa, and the music festival which Ebichu held last year. You can watch this program on YouTube until the day after tomorrow, December 3^rd. I recommend you to watch it, if you haven’t.

冬に聴きたい曲：sumika「まいった」 A Song to Listen to in Winter: ‘Maitta’ by sumika

　もう4年も前の曲ですが、プレイリストに入れてしまいました。いまだに飽きていません。sumikaの曲の中でも地味なように思えますが、なぜか1番好きな曲です。

　Although this song was released four years ago, I put it in my playlist after all this time. That’s because I still can’t get enough of it. It seems to me this song is rather inconspicuous among the songs by sumika, even so I somehow like it best.

　沁みる歌詞です。勝手に切なくなります。別に思い当たるような恋をしたことがあるわけではありません。でも、男ならだれでもわかる心情が綴られている歌詞ではないでしょうか。とくに、「やたら可愛いアイドルと 見比べて下に見てみる」というところなど、思わず笑顔になってしまいます。意味深なところもあります。「右手だけが赤い あの日の僕」という部分です。全くの想像ですが、左手は女の子とつないでいたのではないでしょうか。そう思うのは、2番に次のような歌詞があるからです。

　The lyrics hit home to me. I somehow feel a wistful pang. It is not that I fell in love with someone that way. However, any man can understand the feelings written in the lyrics. The part, which says “Comparing you to quite a cute idol, trying to convince myself you are not better than that”, particularly makes me smile. There are also meaningful words which goes, “My right hand was solely red on that day”. In my opinion, his left hand might have been holding her right hand. The reason why I think so is there are words in the second verse that are as follows.

白い息を空に溜めて

赤と白の手を擦った

あの日との間違い探し

正解は左手が

ポケットに居る事

　My breath showed up white in the air

　I rub my hands, the right one is red and the left is white

　Spot the difference compared to that day

　The right answer is the fact

  My left hand is in my pocket

　「あの日」の左手はきっと違う温もりの中にあったはずです。ますます切なくなります。男って女々しいです。それなのに、この曲には爽やかさを感じるから不思議です。

　アレンジにも惹き込まれます。出だしのギターが奏でるフレーズでもう切ないです。遅れて入るハモンドオルガンにぐっと来たところで、裏で動くベースラインが心を揺さぶります。イントロでもう小泣きです。歌が始まってからもあのギターのフレーズが時折現れては、胸を締め付けます。サビでかすかに聞こえるバックボーカルもよいです。

　気がつくとヘビロテしてしまう名曲です。

　The left hand “on that day” must have been warmed in a different way. This is painful even more. How sentimental guys are! Even so this song sounds pleasant enough.

　The arrangement is also fascinating. The phrase played by the guitar at the beginning is already heart-rending. After that, the Hammond Organ came in touchingly, then the bass played behind them stirs my heart. I’m almost moved to tears by the introduction. The phrase sometimes appears between the lyrics to touch my heart. The backing vocals that are heard in the chorus are also good.

　It is a masterpiece for me to listen to again and again.

歌えたらきっと爽快な曲：Novelbright「Sunny drop」 A Song That I’ll Be Refreshed If I Can Sing It well: ‘Sunny drop’ by Novelbright

　ハイトーンボイスにいきなり連れていかれます。爽快です。気持ちいいです。ついつられて口ずさんでしまって、すぐに打ちのめされます。思いあがった自分が悔しくてなりません。歌えたらどんなに痛快な気分でしょう。

　I’m carried away by the voice hitting high notes at the very beginning. It’s so refreshing. it makes me feel so good. I tend to sing along in spite of myself but soon regret it. I’m ashamed of myself for getting conceited. I wonder how exhilarating if I can sing this song well.

　第一印象がいいだけの曲ではありません。不思議と飽きずに長く聴ける曲です。リリースされたのは8月ですが、いまだにプレイリストに入れたままです。

　The first impression is not the only good point of this song. This is a song that I somehow can’t get enough of. It was released in August but it still remains in my playlist.

　この曲を初めて聴いたとき、Mrs. GREEN APPLEを思い浮かべました。他の曲では違う印象ですが、キャッチーという点では、彼らにひけをとりません。Mrs. GREEN APPLEの大森元貴さんは自分の推しアイドル、エビ中に「シンガロン・シンガソン」という素敵な曲を書いてくださっています。Novelbrightによるエビ中曲もいいのでは、と勝手に思っています。

　The first listen to this song reminded me of a band called Mrs. GREEN APPLE. In other songs by Novelbright I have different impressions but they are as catchy as the songs by Mrs. GREEN APPLE. Omori Motoki, a member of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, wrote a lovely song for Ebichu, my favorite Idol group. I wish Novelbright would wright a song for Ebichu.
