衝撃の日本映画：「吸血鬼ゴケミドロ」(1968) An Amazing Japanese Movie: ‘Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell’(1968)

　ゴケミドロ、です。このざわつく語感はなんでしょう。しかも「吸血鬼ゴケミドロ」です。タイトルに衝撃をうけたまま、アマゾンプライムビデオで鑑賞しました。

　How uneasy this word Gokemidoro is! Plus, it’s not just a Gokemidoro, It’s a ‘Vampire Gokemidoro’. Amazed by this title, I watched this movie on Amazon Prime Video.

『吸血鬼ゴケミドロ』予告編

　怪しげな赤い空を小型旅客機が飛んでいます。乗客らが談笑している客室の窓に突然、鳥が血しぶきをあげて激突します。同じ頃操縦室には、管制塔から衝撃の連絡が入ります。それは、同機に爆弾の入ったバッグが積み込まれた疑いがあり、羽田へと戻ることを命じるものでした。副機長の杉坂（吉田輝雄）は、乗客のバッグを点検しますが見つかりません。しかし、スチュワーデスの朝倉（佐藤友美）がパントリーで発見したスーツケースにはライフルが入っていたのでした。これは、乗客に紛れ込んでいたプロの殺し屋、寺岡（高英男）のものであり、発見されたことを悟った寺岡は、杉坂らに銃を突き付け、沖縄に向かうよう脅します。その時、同機は謎の飛行物体に遭遇し、操縦不能となって墜落してしまうのでした。奇跡的に一命をとりとめた杉坂と朝倉、そして数名の乗客らでしたが、殺し屋の寺岡も生き残ります。結局はこの寺岡という殺し屋が、謎の生命体ゴケミドロに体を乗っ取られ、吸血鬼ゴケミドロとなってしまうのでした……。

  A small passenger plane is flying in the mysteriously red sky. The passengers are chatting, when suddenly a bird crashes into a window of the plane sending its own blood flying. At about the same time, the pilots in the cockpit receives a disturbing message from the control center. It says that there is a possibility that the plane is carrying a bag which contains a time bomb so the plane must return to Haneda Airport. Co-pilot Sugisaka checks the passengers’ bags but there is no bomb. However, Stewardess Asakura finds a suitcase in the pantry and there is a rifle in it. The owner of the bag is Teraoka, a professional hit man, and as soon as he sees what is happening he aims a gun at Sugisaka and Asakura ordering them to take the plane to Okinawa. In that instant, the plane comes across a UFO and went down in the mountains after suddenly going out of control. Several people including Sugisaka and Asakura miraculously survive and so does the hit man Teraoka. Teraoka ends up becoming a Vampire Gokemidoro after the mysterious creature Gokemidoro took over his body.  

　終始笑顔で鑑賞しました。奇抜な設定や突飛な展開にしばしば吹き出しもしました。でも、松竹による怪奇特撮映画第一弾というこの作品は、今から50年前にできる精一杯の技術を駆使したものに違いありません。アメーバ状のゴケミドロが寺岡の体内に入るシーンは、もし自分が子どもだったらトラウマ決定と言いたいほどに衝撃的です。ぱっくりと額が割られ、そこにゴケミドロがするすると入っていくのです。また、人物の性格付けも興味深く、乗客の中には次期総理大臣候補の政治家、それにおもねる武器商人、時限爆弾を持ち込んだ自殺志願者、そしてベトナム戦争で夫を亡くした米国人女性などがいて、それぞれの思惑が物語の展開を一筋縄ではいかないものにしていきます。ただの娯楽映画かと思いきや、反戦の意思もところどころに感じます。

　I was smiling from beginning to end. I sometimes even burst out laughing. However, this is the first Gothic SF Movie by Shochiku Production and they did their best using the state-of-the-art special effects fifty years ago. The scene where the Gokemidoro invades Teraoka’s body was so shocking that I might have suffered trauma if I were a young boy. Teraoka’s forehead is split wide open and the Gokemidoro, an ameba-like blob, invades his body smoothly. Plus, the characters were varied and characterized so interestingly, for example, a politician who is the most likely candidate to be the next prime minister, an arms merchant who curries favor with the politician, a would-be suicide who brought a time bomb onto the plane, a widow who lost her husband in the Vietnam War, and so on, and the fact that every one of them has different motives makes the plot of this story complicated. I thought it was just entertainment but I felt the message of the movie was pacifism for war.

　クエンティン・タランティーノはこの映画のファンだそうです。何かしらワクワクできるものがあることは事実です。60年代の日本映画をもっと観たくてウズウズしています。

　It seems like Quentin Tarantino is a fan of this movie. There is something exhilarating about this movie for sure. I’m now itching to watch more Japanese movies released in the 60's.

初夏に聞きたい曲：SMAP「はじめての夏」 Songs I want to listen to early in summer: ‘Hajimete no Natsu’ by SMAP

　イントロが凄いです。弾けるようなホーンの響きで、一気に夏へと連れていかれます。自分の中での、素敵なイントロベストテンでは、スペンサー・デイビス・グループのギミ・サム・ラヴィンと1位を争うほどです。この季節、明るい陽光の中で聴いても、夜の高速道路を飛ばしながら聴いても気持ちいい曲です。

　The introduction is something special. A burst of horn section takes you to summer. This song competed with, just in my mind, ‘Gimme some lovin’’ by Spencer davis Group for the first place. You can enjoy this song either on a bright sunny day or at night driving a car on the highway.

　作詞は森浩美さん、作曲は馬飼野康二さんです。このコンビによる作品は,デビュー曲「Can’t stop!! -LOVING-」（馬飼野さんはJimmy Johnson名義）をはじめ、「雪が降ってきた」や「オリジナル スマイル」（馬飼野さんはMark Davis名義）、「しようよ」など良曲がいくつもあるように思います。

  The lyrics was written by Mori Hiromi and the music was composed by Makaino Koji. There are many good songs, by this combination, like ‘Can’t stop!! -LOVING-’(Makaino composed this song in the name of Jimmy Jhonson), the debut song of SMAP, ‘Yuki ga Hutte Kita’, ‘Original Smile’(Makino composed this song in the name of Mark Davis) and so on.

　リアルタイムで聴いていなかった自分は、この曲の雰囲気から、海外のミュージシャンを集めた6thアルバム「SEXY SIX」（1994）以降の作品と勝手に思い込んでいましたが、今回確かめてみると1993年のリリースと知って驚きました。SMAPの曲は現在、ごく一部を除いてデジタル配信されていないようです。どんな事情があるのか素人にはわかりませんが、無数の良曲が眠らされているようで残念です。

　I didn’t listen to this song at that time and I thought that this song was released after their sixth album ‘SEXY SIX’(1994), which featured musicians overseas, but I checked it out this time and end up being amazed to know that it was released in 1993. It seems that songs by SMAP are not available online. I’m just a listener so I don’t know the reason, but I feel sorry for these good songs just being locked up.

なぜか飽きない曲：クリープハイプ「さっきはごめんね、ありがとう」 Songs I Can’t get enough of: ‘Sakki wa Gomen-ne Arigato’

　本当に今さらだけど、このバンドの歌が好きです。初めは聴かず嫌いでした。この曲が入っているアルバム「吹き零れる程のI、哀、愛」は、２、3回聴いただけであとは聴かずにいました。ところが、1年ほど前に、他の人からお勧めされる機会があり、あらためて聴いてみるとものすごく良さが伝わりました。なかでも好きなのがこの曲、「さっきはごめんね、ありがとう」です。

　I know it’s really something after all this time to mention this band, but I really like their songs. I just felt an instinctive aversion to them before. I hadn’t been listening to their album ‘Hukikoboreru Hodo no I, 哀(sorrow),愛(love)’, which contains this song, for a long time since I had listened to them just a couple of times. However, there was someone who recommended me to listen to them properly about a year ago, then I finally realized how good their songs are. I somehow like this song ‘Sakki wa Gomen-ne Arigato’the most among them.

　エビ中に提供した「蛍の光」と同質の優しさがここにあふれています。尾崎世界観さんが時折見せる、こんな世界観がとっても素敵だと思います。他の曲で勝手に抱いていたイメージとは違う何かをそこに感じてぐっと惹き込まれました。今では、このアルバムの全曲が好きです。

エビ中 蛍の光

　I have a feeling that this song is overflowing with the same kindness as the song called ‘Hotaru no Hikari’, which Ozaki Sekaikan offered to Ebichu is. I really admire his sensitivity which he sometimes shows through his songs. I was intrigued by this song because the image of this song was totally different from the one, which I originally had before. Now I love all the songs in this album.

　現在、クリープハイプの「およそさん」という曲が、NHKのEテレで放送中のアニメ「あはれ！名作くん」の主題歌となっています。配信予定の6月4日が楽しみです。

　Now their new song called ‘Oyoso san’ is a theme song for the animation ‘Ahare! Meisaku kun’ which is currently broadcast on NHK Educational TV. I’m looking forward to June 4, the day when the song will be released.

ちょっとシニカルなサクセスストーリー：映画「はじまりのうた」（2013）の感想 A Success Story with a Slight Sarcasm: My impression of the Movie called ‘Begin Again’(2013)

　間違いなくいい映画です。アマゾンプライムビデオでアメリカ映画「はじまりのうた」（2013）を視聴しました。音楽も映画も好きな自分ですが、音楽を扱った映画になると、なぜかノレないことがよくあります。でも、この映画は出だしからグイグイ惹き込まれたうえ、非常な満足感をもって視聴を終えました。

　This is a good movie for sure. I watched an American movie called ‘Begin Again’ (2013) on Amazon prime video. Although I like both music and movies, I somehow don't enjoy movies featuring music so much. However I was intrigued even at the beginning of the movie, and I was more than satisfied when I finished watching it.

　物語は、ニューヨークの小さなライブハウスから始まります。友人のライブを観に来ていたイギリス人のグレタは、その気はないのに友人からギターを渡され、歌うはめになってしまいます。仕方なしに歌い始める彼女ですが、その姿をじっと見つめる一人の酔っぱらいがいました。落ち目の音楽プロデューサー、ダンです。レコード会社から解雇されたばかりのダンでしたが、グレタの才能に惚れ込んだ彼は、勤めていたレコード会社との契約を彼女に持ち掛けます。胡散臭いダンの様子に、最初は相手にする様子もないグレタでしたが……。

　The opening scene is at a small live music club in New York. Gretta, an English lady, is there because one of her friend is singing on the stage, but she is unexpectedly handed the guitar by him and ends up singing there. She starts to sing reluctantly but there is a drunk who stares excitedly at her. This guy is Dan, a formerly successful music producer. He was just fired from the record company, but he is so attracted by her talent that he offers to sign her to his former record label. He looks fishy so she initially refuses but…….  

　その後、ライブハウスでのその出会いに至るまでの、ダンとグレタ、それぞれが置かれている状況や背景が観る者に明かされます。2人は、恋愛においても仕事においても敗者であるという、共通の立場にあるのでした。この映画を一言でいうならば、ちょっとシニカルなサクセスストーリーです。サクセスストーリーが成功するための土台として、登場人物を応援したくなるように仕向けることが大切だと思います。この映画はこの点において十分に成功しています。

　Then each situation and background of Dan and Gretta before they meet at the music live club becomes clear to the viewers. They share something in common in that both are losers at loving and jobs. This film is, in short, a success story with a slight sarcasm. It is essential for a movie which depicts a success story to make viewers feel like cheering for the characters. This movie is really successful in that point.  

　グレタの恋人役は、マルーン５のアダム・レヴィーンです。音楽も素晴らしくて即座にCDを買ってしまいました。気持ち良くって、ハマって聴いています。

　まだ観ていない方には、強くお勧めしたい映画です。

　The actor who played Gretta’s boyfriend is Adam Levine, the vocalist of Maroon 5. The music used in this movie is so good that I bought the soundtrack CD immediately. It really makes me feel good so I’m into it now.

　I can highly recommend this movie to people who haven’t watched it yet.

猫好きが笑顔になるドキュメンタリー：NHK「ネコメンタリー 猫も、杓子も。」 A Documentary that makes cat lovers smile: ‘Nekomentary, Neko mo Shakushi mo ’

　連ドラ予約してしまっています。と言ってもドラマではなく、ドキュメンタリーですが。毎週水曜、夜10：50にNHKのEテレで放送されている「ネコメンタリー 猫も、杓子も。」です。

　I’ve set the TV program to be automatically recorded every week on my recorder. It’s not a serial drama but a documentary. The TV program is ‘Nekomentary, Neko mo Shakushi mo’ broadcast at 10:50 p.m. every Wednesday on E tele by NHK.  

ネコメンタリー　猫も、杓子も。PR動画

　ここに登場するのは、著名な作家さんとその愛猫たちです。毎回、一人の作家の日常と、猫たちとのかかわりを、ナレーションと映像で紹介していくという構成になっています。ナレーションの原稿は作家自身が書いた、いわば書下ろしのエッセーです。ナレーターも毎回変わりますが、いずれも著名な俳優ばかりです。

　The people who appear on this program are famous authors and their cats. In every episode, you can see the daily life of an author and his or her cats with the narration and the video. The scripts of the narrations are written by the authors, so it can be called essays newly written for this program. The narrator is different every time, and all of them are famous actors.

好きなアルバムから3曲：BiSH「まだ途中」（3rdアルバムCARROTS and STiCKSより③） Picking out three songs from one of my favorite albums: ‘Mada Tochu’ by BiSH (From their 3rd Album ‘CARROTS and STiCKS’③)

　このアルバムのタイトルを日本語に訳すと「アメとムチ」ということになります。この曲は「アメ」の中でも最も甘い部分かもしれません。頭から最後まで、もう容赦なくキャッチーです。そしてそれに乗っかるポジティブな歌詞は、聴き手を元気にする力を持っています。

　The title of this album, ‘CARROTS and STiCKS’, is translated as ‘Ame to Muchi (candies and lashes)’ in Japanese. I guess this song is the sweetest one among those carrots. It’s extremely catchy from beginning to end. Plus, the lyrics which sounds positive on those melodies have the power to make listeners cheerful.

　作詞はメンバーのモモコグミカンパニーさんが行っています。このアルバムの14曲中5曲を、メンバーが作詞しています。エビ中ファンの自分は、「まだ途中」というこの曲のタイトルで、つい「頑張ってる途中」というエビ中の曲を思い浮かべてしまいます。自分にとっては、どちらも甲乙つけがたい良曲です。

私立恵比寿中学　『頑張ってる途中』

　The lyrics were written by Momokogumicompany, a member of this band. In this album 5 songs out of 14 were written by the members. This title of this song, ‘Mada Tochu’ somehow reminds me, who is a fan of Ebivhu, of a song called ‘Ganbatteru Tochu’ by Ebichu. Both songs are so good for me that I can’t decide which one is the better.

　楽曲の構成が「アメとムチ」であるのは、1^stアルバムでも2^ndでも同じです。とびきりキャッチーな曲が合間に入っているのもそうです。パンクが好きだろうが嫌いだろうが、BiSHをまだ聴かれてない方には一聴することを強くお勧めします。

  In the previous albums, their 1^st and the 2^nd, there are songs “carrots” and songs “sticks” just the same as this 3^rd album. I can find some songs really catchy among them, too. Even if you like punk or not, I’d like to highly recommend you to listen to BiSH, if you hadn’t listened to them.

　イントロの荒々しさとは裏腹に、ボーカルが始まった途端、ポップさが薫ります。AメロとBメロを通じて高まる期待の末にたどり着くサビは、もう遠慮なくキャッチーです。

　Contrary to the introduction which sounds so punkish, you’ll find this song so pop once they start singing. Expectations rise through the verse and the bridge, and you’ll finally reach the chorus which is extremely catchy.

  　決して負けない負け犬目線の歌詞が大好きです。勝ち組感とは無縁な自分だからでしょうか、こんな下から目線の曲に惹かれます。このあたりが、他のアイドルとは一線を画すBiSHの凄みのように思います。この曲は、作詞・作曲共に松隈ケンタさんが行っています。

　I love these lyrics which sounds like something about a loser who never gives up. That’s probably because I’m a loser, too. I tend to be intrigued by this kind of song. At this point BiSH seems to have the advantage over other idols. This song was written by Kenta Matsukuma in both lyrics and music.    

　先日、テレビ朝日の音楽番組「関ジャム」で、「最新アイドル勢力図を総まとめ！！」という回がありました。この回では松隈ケンタさんが登場して、歌唱指導も含めて、どのようにBiSHを作ってきたかを語っておられました。ますますBiSHが好きになりました。

　I watched the TV program ‘Kan Jam’ by TV Asahi and it has a special feature on ‘The latest situation of the idol business’. In this episode, Kenta Matsukuma appeared as a guest and he talked about how he taught them the ways of singing and produced them. I like BiSH even more after watching the program.
