木の一生は、人の一生よりも長いものです。はかない人の命に対し、泰然とした、悠久の流れを象徴するものとして、木がそこに立っているように思います。2人の大切な思い出の場所としてそこに居続けてくれている、あの1本の木を、みどりは何度訪れることになるのでしょう。そして、いつかみどりが秀雄の元へと旅立った後も、あの木はそこに立ち続け、様々な人の営みを見守っていくのだと思います。

In general, the life span of a tree is longer than that of humans. It stands there calmly as something everlasting in comparison to the transient human life. I wonder how many times Midori will visit the tree, which remains there as a memento of their happy days. Even after Midori set out for somewhere Hideo is waiting, it would still remain there watching various lives of people.
最後に、このドラマのよさを語るうえで、やはりこの主題歌を欠かすわけにはいきません。SMAPによる「世界に一つだけの花」です。言わずと知れた名曲ですが、これほど主題歌とドラマがマッチしたケースもあまりないと思います。
I can’t finish this review without mentioning the theme song. The theme song of this drama is ‘Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana’ by SMAP. It is so famous and their masterpiece, and this theme song incredibly matches well with the content of the drama.

とりたてて読み解く必要もない平易な歌詞です。それだけにストレートに胸に届きます。ドラマ「僕の生きる道」は、中村秀雄という人物の、平凡だけど、他の誰とも違う生き様を描いたドラマでした。誰にも平等な死というものに向き合ったとき、何気ない毎日こそが、愛おしいものであることを教えてくれる素敵なドラマであり、この主題歌であったと思います。
