生まれて初めて買ったレコードは、なぜかビートルズの「のっぽのサリー」、そして「ドラゴンへの道」のサントラでした。その頃は、口を開けば「アチョー」しか言わない勢いでした。手作りのヌンチャクを下手くそに振り回しては、自分で痛い目にあっていました。
The records I bought for the first time in my life were “Long Tall Sally” by the Beatles, and the soundtrack of the movie called “The Way of the Dragon”. All I said at that time was “whooachaw!”. I swung around my handmade nunchakus and ended up hurting myself.
ブルース・リーの映画の中で一番好きだったのが、「ドラゴンへの道」でした。ユーモアにあふれていること、陽光あふれるローマを舞台にしていること、そして、コロッセウムで行われる格闘シーンなど、ワクワクする要素がいっぱいでした。
Among the movies featuring Bruce Lee, I liked “The Way of The Dragon” best. There were some reasons for it, for example, it was really humorous, it was set in sunny Rome, and the fight scene was at the Colosseum. This movie was full of things that exhilarated me.
ブルース・リーのキャラクターと、あの柔らかい身のこなしは猫を連想させます。比較するのは嫌いなのですが、ジャッキー・チェンには子犬のような人懐っこさを感じます。ジャッキー・チェンの映画も大好きですが、猫好きな自分はどうしてもブルース・リーを推してしまいます。
Bruce Lee’s character and his movements somehow remind me of a cat. Jackie Chan, though I hate to compare them, reminds me of a friendly puppy. I also like his movies, but I prefer Bruce Lee just because I’m a cat lover.
「ドラゴンへの道」では、実際に猫がいい仕事をしている場面があります。コロッセウムでまさに戦わんとするチャック・ノリスとブルース・リーですが、彼らを見守る子猫の姿が映し出されます。２人の殺気が頂点に達したとき、この子猫が鳴き声を上げて戦いが始まるのでした。
今観ると、映画としては稚拙な点も多く感じますが、何度見ても飽きない映画です。
There is a scene where a cat does a good job in “The Way of The Dragon”. At the time when Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee are about to fight, a kitten appears looking at them. Then the moment when the air of imminent violence pervaded there, the kitten cried out loud to start the fight.
Now I feel that this movie is somewhat clumsy but, even so, I can’t get enough of it.
