　ずっと笑顔で、時々吹き出しながら聴いてしまいます。車で聴いていると、信号待ちの対向車の目が気になり、あわてて無表情を装います。　

　I can’t help smiling all along and sometimes even burst into laughter while listening to the tracks. I have to put on a blank expression when I find someone in a car in the opposite lane watching me while waiting for the traffic light to change.

　私立恵比寿中学の5thアルバム、「MUSiC」で思い知った楽しさをまた味わいたくて、４枚目の「エビクラシー」にも手を出してしまいました。この可笑しみは何でしょう。しかも優れた楽曲ぞろいです。

　I’d like to experience again the pleasure that I felt by the album called “MUSiC”, the 5^th album of Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku, so I gave their 4^th album “Ebicracy” a try. I wonder why this album is so funny. Plus, all the tracks are excellent.

私立恵比寿中学 『なないろ』Music Video

　作詞・作曲のメンツをみただけで納得です。レキシの池田貴史さん、ヒャダインさんとしても知られている前山田健一さんの名前もみえます。アルバムトータルの満足感はスマップのものと似ています。やはり優れたミュージシャンが集まって仕事をするとこんなによいものができるのだと思い知らされます。

　I was somehow convinced when I saw the musicians who wrote the songs. Some big names can be seen here such as Ikeda Takahumi a.k.a. Rekishi, Maeyamada Ken-ichi a.k.a. Hyadain, and so on. The feeling of satisfaction I feel by this album is somehow similar to what I felt by the albums of SMAP. I realize how good the result can be if skillful musicians work together.

　さらにさかのぼりたくて、吉澤嘉代子さん提供の「面皰」が入った３rdアルバム、「穴空」もすでにレンタルしてしまっています。

　I wanted to listen to their early albums, too, so I already rented their 3^rd album called “Anarchy”, which contains the song called “Nikibi” written by Yoshizawa Kayoko.

仏蘭西屋の美味しいカクテル：「モヒート」 Good Cocktails in My Favorite Bar: “Mojito”

（2020年7月現在、残念なことに仏蘭西屋は閉店しています）

　仏蘭西屋の小さなホワイトボードに今書かれているのは、夏のカクテルです。この季節、店に入って、ボードに目をやり、そのカクテルがあるのをみると嬉しくなります。ラム・ベースのカクテル「モヒート」です。

　The names of the cocktails which are written on the small white board in France Ya now are the summer specials. There is a cocktail that I’d feel happy if I could see the name of it on the white board at this time of year. The cocktail is “mojito”, a rum based cocktail.

　ホワイトラムにライムジュース、砂糖、ソーダ水、それにミントの葉とくし切りのライムが入ったこのカクテルは、飲みごたえのあるロング・ドリンクです。去年は、よいミントの葉が手に入らないということで、飲むことができませんでした。待ちわびた１杯を先日、嬉しくってほくそえみながら飲みました。

　This cocktail, which consists of white rum, lime juice, sugar, soda water, a sprig of mint and a piece of lime, is a long drink with a relatively large volume. I couldn’t drink this cocktail last year because there wasn’t mint with good quality. I could finally have this cocktail that I’ve longed for the other day and I was so glad that I couldn't help smiling.

　仏蘭西屋には時々、外国人の方もいらっしゃいます。英語のスキルアップのチャンスととらえて、できるだけ話しかけるようにしています。その日は、初老のイギリス人カップルが来られていました。男性の方は東京の大学で講師をしておられるとのこと。奥様の方はロンドンに在住とのことでした。長崎には旅行で来られていたようです。わずかな時間でしたが、楽しいひと時を過ごせました。

　Sometimes you can see foreigners in France Ya. I make a point of speaking to them as much as possible because I just want to improve my English skills. There was an English couple in their early sixties when I went there on that day. The husband said that he is teaching at a university in Tokyo, and the wife somehow lives in London. They traveled to Nagasaki. I had a good time with them just for a while.      

　モヒートは、美味しくて飲みやすいものの、意外に強いお酒です。この夏もこのお酒で気持ちを大きくして、誰かに話しかけてみたいと思います。

　Mojito is a cocktail that tastes good and is easy to drink, but is unexpectedly strong. I’d like to speak to some people with the help of this cocktail.

雨の日に聴きたい曲：フィッシュマンズ「100ミリちょっとの」 Songs that sound good in the rainy season: “100 Milli Chotto no” by Fishmans

　歌詞には雨なんて全く出てきません。「100ミリだけのカラッポを」という歌詞を考えると、100ミリはべつに降雨量のことではないと思います。自分がこの季節にこの曲を想うのは、たぶん、この季節に聴いていたから、ただそれだけに違いありません。

　You can’t find “rain” in the lyrics of this song at all. Come to think of the part which says, “the emptiness of 100 milli”, I don’t think this 100 means a quantity of precipitation. The reason why the rainy season reminds me of this song is because I just listened to the song around the time of the year.

　フィッシュマンズに思い入れがある人は多いはずです。世田谷三部作と呼ばれる3枚のアルバムは、日本の音楽史の中でも、何かしら特別のもののように思えます。ましてや人気が絶頂の最中に、ボーカル兼ギターであり、曲を作っていた佐藤伸治さんが亡くなった時点で、このバンドは一つの伝説になってしまいました。

　I guess there are many people who are attached to the band called Fishmans. The three albums called Setagaya Trilogy seems to be something special in the history of pop Japanese music. On top of that, this band even became a legend because Satoh Shinji, the member who was the vocalist, guitarist, and the song writer of this band, has died at the height of their popularity.

　この「100ミリちょっとの」という曲は、フィッシュマンズのセカンドシングルです。歌謡曲のようにキャッチーなこの曲は、世田谷三部作が好きな人にとっては、むしろ彼ららしくない響きなのかもしれません。また、この曲が収録されているアルバム「KING MASTER GEORGE」を好きになれない人もいるようです。レゲエっぽい曲や、わずか数秒のふざけたトラックまで入っているこのアルバムは賛否両論あるようですが、彼らのエッセンスは十分に味わえるように思います。

　This song called “100 Milli Chotto no” is the second single by them. This song is so catchy that I can call it a popular song, and it is the very reason for some people who love Setagaya Trilogy because this song is not typical of their songs. I know some people don’t like the album called “KING MASTER GEORGE” which contains this song, Some of the tracks in the album are the kind of reggae and some of the tracks are just playful ones only for a few seconds, so this album is quite controversial. Even so, I believe you can find and enjoy the essence of the band.

長崎の美味しいもの：チャイデリカの「焼小籠包」 Something Delicious in Nagasaki: Chinese restaurant Chaidelica’s “Fried Soup Dumpling”

 　今クールのドラマでは、吉高由里子さん主演の「わたし、定時で帰ります」を観ていました。吉高由里子さんはもちろんですが、向井理さんや内田有紀さんといった俳優さんたちがとっても魅力的でした。そして、自分にとってよいドラマの定石である、美味しそうな食事の場面が毎回ちゃんとありました。

　I’ve been watching the drama called “Watashi Teiji de Kaeri Masu” among the dramas in this season. I was attracted by the actors, Yoshitaka Yuriko, the main actor, Mukai Osamu and Uchida Yuki. I was also attracted by some delicious food featured in each episode and it is something in common with the dramas I loved.

　毎夕、定時で上がる、吉高由里子さん演じる東山結衣が急いで向かう先は、中華料理「上海飯店」です。６時１０分までに行けば生ビールが半額になるのでした。このお店の名物は小籠包です。出来立てアツアツのそれを美味しそうに頬張り、ジョッキを傾ける結衣を見るたびに、食べたい気持ちが募っていきました。

　Higashiyama Yui, the main character played by Yoshitaka Yuriko, makes a point of leaving her office at the fixed time every evening and hurries to the Chinese restaurant called “Shanghai Hanten”. She can drink a mug of beer at half price if she can get there by 6:10, The specialty of the restaurant is soup dumpling. Watching her eating soup dumplings, which are still piping hot, and drinking beer with a relish makes me want to have them very much.

　中華料理店が多い長崎に住んでいながら、これまで小籠包を食べたことがありませんでした。どうしても食べたくて、ネットで見たところ、一番人気はチャイデリカというお店の「焼小籠包」であることがわかりました。ランチのセットでは焼小籠包が３個ついて1080円となっています。先日、試してみました。

　Although I live in Nagasaki which has so many Chinese restaurant, I’ve never tried soup dumplings so far. I just wanted to eat them so I looked into them on the internet the other day and I found that the restaurant called Chaidelica is the most popular place for their “fried soup dumplings”. I saw that the set menu for lunch cost 1,080 yen including 3 fried soup dumplings. I gave it a try the other day.

　自分が注文したのは油淋鶏（ユーリンチー）のセットです。はじめに３つの小籠包がのったお皿が運ばれてきました。皮の色が白と緑とピンクになっています。それぞれの具材が豚、鶏、エビとの説明がありました。熱そうだったので恐る恐る一口食べてみると、中からスープがあふれ出ました。想像通りの美味しさで夢中になって食べ終わったころに、セットの残りが運ばれてきました。

　I ordered a set menu featuring a sort of fried chicken called Yu-rin-chi. They served a dish of three soup dumplings first. One of them was white, another was green and a third was pink. The waitress explained that white means pork, green means chicken and pink means shrimp, They looked really hot so I timidly took a bite and the soup overflowed from inside. They were really good just as I thought it would be so I was absorbed in eating them and about the time when I finished them the other dishes came.

　まず、そのボリュームに驚きました。油淋鶏のソースもピクルスも薬膳の香りがしてヘルシーな味わいです。本当におなか一杯になって店を出ました。

　次は麻婆豆腐のセットを試してみたいです。

　I was amazed at the quantity of Yu-rin-chi. The sauce for Yu-rin-chi and pickles taste like something good for health because they have flavors of Chinese herbal medicine. I left the restaurant feeling completely full.

　I'm going to try another set menu featuring ma-bo-do-fu next time.

シングルレビュー：リトルグリーモンスター「君に届くまで」 Single Review: “Kimi ni Todoku Made”

　一度聴いただけで、もう好きになりました。リトルグリーモンスターの新曲、「君に届くまで」が５月２９日にリリースされています。TVアニメの主題歌だというこの曲は、全部サビではと言いたくなるほどにキャッチーで耳になじみやすい曲です。

　I was attracted by this song as soon as I listened to it just once. “Kimi ni Todoku Made”, the new song by Little Glee Monster, was released on the 29^th of March. This song, which is a theme song for a TV animation, is so catchy and pleasing to the ear that I’m hooked by any part of this song.

　このところ、「MUSIC FAIR」や「SONGS OF TOKYO」といったテレビ番組で、彼女たちが歌う姿をみていました。見るほどに、歌うことが大好きな気持ちが、また楽しんで歌っているのが伝わってきて、こちらまでワクワクしてしまいます。そして、アカペラの曲を歌ったときにこそ、彼女たちの真価が発揮されるとわかりました。4thアルバム「FLAVA」にも、「A Cappella Medley」が入っていますが、気持ちよくって何度も繰り返して聴いてしまいます。

　Recently, I’ve seen Little Glee Monster singing in such TV programs as “Music Fair” and “SONGS OF TOKYO”. The more I saw them, the more I got thrilled because I could tell that they really love to sing and enjoy singing. I’m sure you can tell what they are made of especially when they sing a cappella. Their 4^th album “FLAVA” contains “a cappella medley” and I’ve listened to it again and again because it sounds so good.

　このシングルには、他にも「Baby Baby」そして「夢がはじまる」という２曲が入っています。どちらも聴くほどによさが沁みてきます。７月１３日（土）にはTBSの「音楽の日2019」に出演予定とのことで、こちらも楽しみです。

　This single contains two other songs, “Baby Baby” and “Yume ga Hajimaru”. Both of them are also good and I’ve got to love it gradually. It seems that they are going to appear on the TBS’s TV program called “Ongaku no Hi 2019”on Saturday, July 13, so I’m really looking forward to it.

大好きだったあの世界は今：岩館真理子の世界⑫「白いサテンのリボン」 Where Is the World I Loved Before?: “Shiroi Saten no Ribbon” by Iwadate Mariko

　タイトルの質感に、もう岩館真理子さんらしさを感じてワクワクします。１９９４年、集英社発行の「白いサテンのリボン」は４つのお話からなる短編集です。

　The texture of the title is something typical of Iwadate Mariko and it makes me thrilled. “Shiroi Saten no Ribbon”, released in 1994, is a collection of 4 short stories.

　表題作の「白いサテンのリボン」は、祖母の美しい白いドレスを巡っての、姉妹の確執を描いたものです。耽美的なこの世界は、岩館真理子さんならではのもののように思います。妹である主人公の波子の酷薄さに、少し背筋が冷たくなってしまうようなサスペンスです。

　The title piece called “Shiroi Saten no Ribbon” is a story about the conflict between sisters over a Granma’s dress which is going to be given to either of them. The esthetic world you can see there is something only Iwadate can create. This is a thriller describing the younger sister’s cruelty that makes you feel a chill runs down your spine.

　２番目のお話「アイリスの小鉢」は、表題作とは打って変わって、心温まるお話です。主人公のカナは、漫画家の母といかがわしい小説家の父をもつ中学生の女の子です。だらしない両親のもと、奔放に育ったカナですが、父母のどちらにも似たところのない自分や、引っ越しばかりを繰り返す生活に疑問を抱いているのでした。最後に明かされる真相は切ないもので、涙があふれてしまいます。

　The second story called “Iris no Kobachi” is a heartwarming story in sharp contrast with the title piece. Kana, the main character, is a junior high school girl who has a mother, a cartoonist, and a father, a writer of in decent stories. Kana is a girl of Bohemian tastes who has grown up watching her parents of rather slovenly tastes. She has doubts about herself who doesn’t look like her parents at all and about their life moving from place to place. The truth which is revealed at the end is somewhat heartrending and it makes me cry.

　上記の２作は１９９３年に「ヤングユー」で掲載されたものですが、３番目の「天使の耳朶」、４番目「花咲く森の少女」はそれぞれ８８年、８９年に「マーガレット」に掲載されたものです。画風の変化が見て取れるのが興味深いところです。

　繊細な美しさに満ちた、岩館真理子さんの世界を新作で味わいたいです。

　These works I mentioned above are published in the magazine called “Young You” in 1993, but the rest of the stories, the third one called “Tenshi no Mimitabu” and the fourth called “Hana Saku Mori no Shojyo ”, are published in “Margaret” in 1988 and 1989. It is interesting that I can tell the change in her drawing style here.

　I’d like to enjoy the Iwadate Mariko’s world that is quite delicately beautiful.

吉澤嘉代子さんとエビ中の相性よすぎでは？：「面皰」「日記」「曇天」 Yoshizawa Kayoko and Ebiichu Are Really Well Suited for Each Other: “Nikibi”,”Nikki”,”Don Ten”

　エビ中のアルバム、MUSiCのよさが止まりません。このところ、このアルバムばかり、ヘビロテしています。たたみかけてくる、なりふり構わぬ元気ポップの連続が気持ちよくて、なすすべもなく身を任せてしまっています。

　I can’t get enough of the album called “MUSiC”, released by Ebichu. Recently, I only listen to this album. I can’t help listening to the songs in the album because it makes me feel so good that I end up getting into the energetic pop songs coming in rapid succession.

　なかでも、吉澤嘉代子さん作詞・作曲の「曇天」は何かしら特別です。聴いた瞬間、ご本人ではと思ってしまうほどに、彼女らしさが際立っている曲ですが、しかし一切の違和感なく、このアルバムに収まっています。

　Above all, “Don Ten”, which is written by Yoshizawa Kayoko, is something special for me. I suspected Yoshizawa would have sung it by herself when I hear it for the first time because it sounded in a way typical of Yoshizawa’s songs. However, this song naturally fit in this album.

吉澤嘉代子「ねえ中学生 feat.私立恵比寿中学」MUSIC VIDEO

　吉澤さんとエビ中の関わりを知ったのは、ずいぶん前でした。2016年のアルバム「吉澤嘉代子とうつくしい人たち」の2曲目、「ねえ中学生」でエビ中がコーラスとして参加しているのは知っていました。しかし、吉澤さんが「面皰」や「日記」という楽曲を私立恵比寿中学に提供していたのは、うかつにも知りませんでした。

　In fact, I’ve long since known the relationship between Yoshizawa Kayoko and Ebichu. Ebichu joined the song called “Ne-e Chugakusei”, which is the second track of her album called “Yoshizawa Kayoko to Utsukushii Hitotachi” released in 2016,  as a chorus. However, I was careless enough not to have noticed that Yoshizawa wrote two songs, “Nikibi” and “Nikki”, for Ebichu.

私立恵比寿中学 『面皰』

　どうしても聴きたくなって「面皰」「日記」を緊急ダウンロードしたところ、めちゃくちゃよくて驚きました。「面皰」は可笑しみにあふれている上に、その可愛さは米津玄師さんの「パプリカ」を想わせます。「日記」は多幸感にあふれています。どちらもクセになるぐらい良い曲です。

　I couldn’t help but listen to the two songs so I downloaded them immediately to end up being amazed by because they were extremely good. “Nikibi” is quite humorous and so adorable that it somehow reminds me of the song called “Paprika” written by Yonezu Kenshi..“Nikki” sounds full of euphoria. Both are so good that they could be addictive.

　吉澤嘉代子さんの魅力は、引き出しの多さからくる、捉えどころの無さではないかとみています。それは創造性の高さによるものでしょうが、創造性は虚構性につながります。「女優」というアルバムに感じた統一感は、その虚構性を迷いなく前面に押し出した故だったのではないでしょうか。そして、彼女の引き出しの多さは、ときに本人の手に余るほどのように感じます。様々なキャラクターで構成されたアイドルグループこそ、その虚構性を体現する器としてふさわしいのかもしれません。両者の相性のよさがそこにあるならば、これからどんな作品が生まれるか、楽しみが尽きないように思います。

　I feel an intangible charm from Yoshizawa Kayoko’s songs and the reason I do might be because she has lots of ideas. She is creative very much and the creativity could lead to fictionality. The pleasing unity that I felt from her album called “Jyoyu” is the result of the fact that she emphasized the fictionality without hesitation. Sometimes it somehow seems to me that she has too much ideas. So an idol group like Ebichu, which has the members with various characters, is something suitable for her to embody her fictionality. If that were the case, I’m really looking forward to the songs they will produce in the future, too.

私立恵比寿中学 「自由へ道連れ」from 椎名林檎トリビュートアルバム「アダムとイヴの林檎」

　考えてみると、エビ中は椎名林檎さんのトリビュート・アルバム「アダムとイヴの林檎」にも参加しています。林檎さんといえば、「歌舞伎町の女王」以来、予想もつかない虚構の世界を構築してきたアーティストです。このトリビュート・アルバムでもいい仕事をしているエビ中に、アイドルグループの持つ可能性の大きさを感じています。

　Come to think of it, Ebichu joined the tribute album for Shiina Ringo, “Adam to Eve no Ringo”, too.  Shiina Ringo is the artist who has built unpredictable fictional world since the song called “Kabukicho no Jyo-ou”. I felt some great potential as an idol group from Ebichu who played an important role in the tribute album.
