かわいい車と言えば、やっぱりこの車が一番に思い浮かびます。ミニクーパー、それも自分にとっては現行のBMW ではなく、ローバーのものです。今回作ったのはその最後のモデル、1997 年のものになります。
When it comes to a cute car, sure enough this car comes to mind first. The car is Mini Cooper, but not the BMW one for me, it is the one from Rover. The version of the model I built this time was of 1997, the last model by Rover.
ミニクーパーと言えば、やっぱりブリティッシュグリーンでルーフは白というのが定番です。昔自分が乗っていたのもこの色でした。今回、どうしてもきれいに仕上げたくて、ついに筆塗りはやめて缶スプレーで吹くことにしました。
The typical body color of the Mini Cooper is what they call British green with the roof painted white. My old Mini Cooper that I used to have was painted the same way. I wanted to color it beautifully this time, so I didn't use brushes, but painted with spray can.
いわゆるサーフェイサーで下地を作って塗装しました。仕上がりとしては、確かに筆塗りのようなムラはありません。でも、思ったほどの艶は出ず、満足しなかったのも事実です。
I primed the parts with so called surfacer. When I finished painting, there was no place painted uneven unlike the case I had painted with brushes before. However, I wasn't satisfied with it because it was not as shiny as I had expected.
光沢のコーティングスプレーを吹いてもそんなに変わりません。プロのモデラーさんが 行うような鏡面仕上げには程遠い状態です。コンパウンドを購入して磨いても少し艶が増しただけでした。
Gloss coating spray didn’t work well, too. The result was totally different from the mirror finish done by professional model builders. I bought a polishing compound and used it, but it worked just a little.
ヘッドライトの片方は接着剤で白濁してしまいました。窓のクリアパーツも、コーティングスプレーで曇ってしまっています。でも、こうやって経験値を上げていくのが模型製作の醍醐味であるのは間違いありません。
The right headlight became cloudy because of the adhesive. The transparent parts for the windows got also clouded due to coating spray. However, I'm sure that I can learn from such mistakes and improve my building skills.
今回作ったのはハセガワの商品です。ルーフはボディと別パーツだし、ライト回りもメッキパーツで、塗装しやすく、とてもいいキットだと思いました。驚いたことに、古いタイプのミニのプラモデルは、現行のものでは他に選択肢は無いようです。
The model I build this time was produced by a model company called Hasegawa. The kit was easy to paint because the roof was separated from the body, and some parts around the lights were properly plated. To my surprise, there seem to be no other kits of old Mini currently.
