プラモデルをきちんと作りたいなら、欠かせない工具や材料がいくつかあります。本来なら、ちゃんと模型店に行ってプラモデル専用のそれらを買うべきでしょう。でも、どうしても早く取りかかりたくて、近くのDIYのお店で済ませてしまいました。
If you want to build plastic models properly, you need to prepare some tools and materials. Properly speaking, you should go to a hobby store to buy things specifically designed for doing it. But I went to a DIY store instead because I couldn't wait to start.
最低限必要なものは、接着剤と塗料です。接着剤は昔ながらのセメダインが家にありました。DIYのお店で購入したのは、水性エナメル塗料です。
Adhesive and paint were at least necessary to build plastic models. As for adhesive, I had an old-fashioned cement at home. What I bought at the DIY store was water-based enamel paint.
水性の塗料が使えるなんて知りませんでした。子どもの頃は、溶剤が必要な塗料を使っていましたが、匂いがいやで気分が悪くなっていたのを覚えています。ペンタッチのものも見つけて、これは便利と喜びました。
I actually didn't know that there was water-based paint designed for plastic models. I remember I used to use solvent-based one in my childhood, and often felt sick from its smell. I found a pen shaped one and was pleased because it looked quite useful.
いよいよ組み立て開始です。まずはエンジン部分の組み立てです。部品をレールから外す前に着色します。
I finally started it. First of all, assembly of engine parts. It would be better to color the parts before removing them from the trees
作業を始めるとすぐに、ちゃんとした工具の必要性を実感します。まず思ったのはニッパーです。ハサミだとどうしても余分な出っぱりが残ってしまいます。
I realized the necessity of proper tools as soon as I started. What came to mind first was a pair of nippers. With a pair of scissors, the left of the branch always stays on the part.
チューブの接着剤の使い勝手の悪さにも閉口します。適量取り出すのが難しく、接着部からはみ出したり、糸をひいたりして、きれいに仕上がりません。でも、そんな不便を乗り越えるのも、プラモデルづくりの楽しさです。
Adhesive in a tube is so hard to use. It is quite difficult to take a right amount of adhesive and it sometimes runs over from the joint or becomes stringy, so it cannot be done beautifully. However, such inconvenience could be part of the fun in building plastic models.
完成まで２週間かかりました。結局、一番てこずったのはデカールでした。経年劣化していたのか、とても破れやすくて失敗しまくりでした。ここではピンセットの必要性を痛感しました。
It took me two weeks to finish the Bentley. In the end, the most difficult part was sticking the decals. They were easily torn apart probably because of aging, and I failed so many times. That made me realize the necessity of tweezers.
とてもきれいな仕上がりとはいえませんが、最低限の工具でできたことに満足しています。同時に、次はもう少し工具を揃えてから取り組もうと決意しました。早速、次のプラモデルをネットで買いました。

I can’t say it was beautifully done, but somehow I was satisfied with the fact that I did it with minimal tools. At the same time, I decided to buy some more tools and use them next time. I’ve already bought the next plastic model on the Internet.
