　プラモ熱が冷めません。週末はほとんどそれに費やしています。平日も寝る前の数十分、チマチマやってしまっています。

　I cannot get enough of building plastic models. I spend every weekend mostly doing that. Even on weekdays, I do for some time before going to bed.

　ベントレーの次に作ったのはMGB でした。年代は違うけれども英国車という点で同じです。そして、MGの車（おそらくMGA）も007の原作に登場する一台です。

　The model car I built after the Bentley was the MGB. Although their ages are different, both are from the U.K. And a car made by MG, probably MGA, also appears in a 007 novel.

　007がMG に？スポーツカーとはいえ、ボンドカーには向いてないイメージがあります。実は物語に出てくるとはいえ、ジェームズ・ボンドとは全く関係ない場面、それもある女性の回想の中に登場するだけです。

　007 in MG? The car is definitely a sports car, but I have an impression that it is not suited for a Bond car. Actually, the MG appears in a scene that has nothing to do with James Bond, plus it was in just a woman’s personal recollection.

　このMG が登場するのは、「私を愛したスパイ」。この作品は、シリーズの中でも異色と言っていい一作です。主人公は一人の女性で、彼女の視点から描かれる、いわゆる一人称の物語になっています。

　The MG shows up in ‘The spy who loved me’. This novel was written in a different style from others. The main character is a woman, and this is a first-person narrative, which means the story is told by her.

　「わたしは逃げ出してきたのだった」という一文から始まるこの物語は、３つの章から成り立っています。第一章の「わたし」では、イギリスから傷心の旅に出た主人公ヴィヴィアンヌ・ミシェルが、カナダのとあるモーテルに来るまでの経緯が描かれます。

　This story, which starts with a sentence, “I was running away”, consists of three chapters. The first chapter is titled ‘Me’, and what is described there is how the protagonist called Vivienne Michel, who is on a journey to forget her sorrow, came to a motel in Canada all the way from the U.K.

　嵐の一夜、マネージャーの夫婦からモーテルの留守番を頼まれた主人公は一人で回想に耽ります。男運の悪いヴィヴの、初恋の彼が乗っていたのがMG でした。当時の若い男女のデートにはぴったりの車のように思えます。

　On a stormy night, the main character, who was asked to stay at a motel by its manager and his wife, spend time thinking back on her life alone. Viv has no luck with men, and the MG was owned by her first boyfriend. The way I see it, that car was a suitable one for a young couple to go out at that time.

　ほろ苦い回想に費やす平穏な一夜は、第二章の「かれら」で悪夢に変わります。いよいよ嵐が来そうな時分になって、モーテルのドアを誰かがガンガンと叩いたのでした。かれらは、凶悪なギャングの二人組だったのです。

　The peaceful night recollecting bittersweet memories turns into a nightmare in the second chapter titled ‘Them’. When the storm is coming, someone banged on the motel’s door. The two guys are vicious mobsters.

　いわくありげなこの二人組に追い詰められるヴィヴですが、あわやという場面で別の客がやって来ます。背中に銃を向けられながら開いたドアの向こうには、また似たような手合いが。車がパンクしたので泊めてくれというその男は、ジェームズ・ボンドと名乗ったのでした。

　Viv is cornered by those two villains who behave conspiratorially, but another guest comes in the very nick of time. With a gun thrust against her back, she opens the door and finds another tough-looking guy standing there. The guy asks her to stay there because his car has a flat tire and called himself James Bond.
