原作漫画の発行部数は、2022年の9月で9000万部に達しているとのこと。アニメはアマゾンプライムで視聴できるということで、観てみました。最初は、ちょっと退屈に思えました。でも、十話を過ぎたあたりから徐々に惹き込まれます。いったんそうなると、もう止まりません。やばいです。面白すぎです。これだけ人気なのもうなずけます。以下、アニメ公式サイトの紹介文の一部です。
As of September 2022, the original manga had over 90 million copies in circulation. I heard the anime version of it is available on Amazon Prime, so I gave it a try. The first impression of the first several episodes was a little bit boring. But after about episode ten, I got gradually hooked on. I couldn’t stop once I was into it. It was awesome. This is a story about a country called Qin, which was located in the western part of China Before Christ. A young servant called Xin, who shared a dream with his deceased best friend and the dream was to be the “Greatest General in the world”, was involved in a coup d’etat which was carried out in their capital city, and then he had a fateful encounter with the king of Qin called Ying Zheng.
After several years, Xin was in battle fields as a soldier making a career with his rivals such as Meng Tianm, Wang Ben, and so on. Meanwhile, Ying Zheng, the king, became steadily influential at court with his resourcefulness even getting some people who had been against him like his younger brother called Chegjiao on his side, even though he was so young that he was still under control of the chancellor of Qin called Lu Buwei…….

一言で言えば、史実に基づく痛快なサクセスストーリーでしょうか。下僕から大将軍です。その大将軍が仕えたのが、世界史でも最も有名な人物の1人、秦の始皇帝だというのですから、興味が掻き立てられないわけがありません。500年も続いたという春秋戦国時代を経て、7つの国が割拠していた当時の中国。その中で、北西の辺境に位置していた秦がいかにして中国を統一していったかを、つぶさに描いているのがこの作品です。

このお話の途方も無さは、そのスケールの大きさからくる、登場人物の多さにあります。主人公の周辺だけでも相当数に上るうえに、7国それぞれの武将、文官らを合わせると、無数と言っていい人物が登場します。プロットも複雑になり、物語に厚みが出るのも当然です。下手すると事実の羅列に終わってしまいそうですが、一つ一つのエピソードがやたらと面白いのが、この作品の凄さと言っていいでしょう。

The reason why this story is so extraordinary is the number of characters who appear in it. There are so many people just around the main character, plus each state has a lot of war lords and civilian staff so numerous characters show up in this story. It is natural that the plots are woven complicatedly, and the story becomes substantial. I have a feeling that this kind of work could be a collection of mere facts, nevertheless every episode is extremely enjoyable, so I am impressed by this anime.
