アウディに対しては、勝手にネガティヴなイメージを持っていました。数年前に帰国したスコットランド人の友人が、特に理由もなく酷評していたからでしょうか。しかし、メガーヌGT見たさに訪れたお店、クエストオートモーティブに置いてあったアウディS1は、そんな偏見を一瞬で吹き飛ばしてくれました。この車のスペックは次の通りです。
I had a negative image of Audi before somehow. That’s because, I guess, my Scottish friend, who went back to her country several years ago, used to criticize it for no reason. However, the Audi S1 that I saw when I visited a garage service called Quest Automotive which I visited to see a Megane GT, blew away such bias. The specification of it is as follows.

今回も試乗はしていません。ただ、エンジンをかけて、前後に動かしただけです。それだけで何もわかるわけはありませんが、その小さなボディに似つかわしくないスペックにワクワクします。自分のスイスポより全長で約９㎝、幅で約5㎝大きいものの、車高は約9㎝低いです。それでいて最高出力は約95馬力、トルクでは210N/mも上回っています。BRZ、GR86と比べると、馬力ではごくわずかに劣るものの、トルクははるかに大きいです。しかもクアトロ、いわゆるフルタイムの４WDを搭載しています。S1には６MTしか設定がなく、シフトフィールはスイスポによく似ています。
I didn’t test-drive it this time again. I just started the engine and move it froward and backward a little. There’s no way I was able to learn whether it is good or not, but I was excited by the spec of it despite its small size. It is about 9cm longer than Swift Sport, my own car, about 5cm wider, but about 5cm lower. In spite of the size, it has 95 more horsepower than Swift Sport, and 210N/m more torque. In comparison with BRZ or GR86, S1 has a little less horsepower but much higher torque. On top of that, it has 4WD, what they call quattro system, too. It has only 6MT and the feeling of the shift changing is almost the same as that of Swift Sport.
年式は2014年ですが、内外装ともにきれいで走行距離は少なく、3万４千㎞です。タイヤは新品で、ホイールはピアノブラックに塗装されています。気になる値段ですが、298万円です。ネットでいろいろと検索してみましたが、この状態の良さでこの値段というのは、間違いなくお買い得です。
It was 2014 model, but both interior and exterior are beautiful, and the odometer showed only about 34,000 km. The tires are brand new, and the alloy wheel was beautifully painted piano black. The price, I concerned most, was 2,980,000 yen. I checked the market price of used S1 and found the price was definitely reasonable.
揺れています。正直、この車を見るまでは、BRZに大きく心が傾いていました。最新の装備を搭載した日本の新車か、魅力的なスペックを持った中古の輸入車か、いまや選択肢は絞られました。悩ましいですが、結論は出ています。続きは次回で。
I’m wavering. Frankly speaking, I had been attracted by BRZ very much until I saw this car. Now I have two choices, a new car with state-of-art equipment or a secondhand imported car with attractively high spec. It is really difficult to decide, but I’ve already made up my mind. To be continued.
