　今世紀のクリスマス・ソングで自分が好きなものをもう一つ挙げるなら，アメリカのロック・シンガー，ケリー・クラークソンの「アイル・ビー・ホーム・フォー・クリスマス」です。この曲は，彼女のクリスマス・アルバム「ラップト・イン・レッド」に収録されています。

   The other one I like very much among the Christmas songs in this century is “I’ll be home for Christmas” by Kelly Clarkson, a rock singer in the USA, too.  This song is contained in her Christmas album “Wrapped in Red”

  クリスマス・ソングとしてスタンダードなこの曲は，カーペンターズの「クリスマス・ポートレイト」にも入っていますが，ケリーのバージョンはそちらに劣らぬよさがあります。もともとこの曲は，第２次大戦中の１９４３年に，アメリカでビング・クロスビーが出したものです。歌詞は，戦場にいながら，家族とともに過ごすクリスマスを想う兵士の視点で書かれています。大切な人を想う心が，ひしひしと伝わってきて，「夢の中だけでも」という歌詞に切なくなります。

.  This is a standard Christmas song and it is also contained in Carpenters’ album “Christmas portrait”, and, in my opinion, Kelly’s version is as good as theirs. This song was originally released by Bing Crosby in America in 1943, during World War Ⅱ. It was written from the view point of a soldier in a battlefield longing to be with his family at Christmas. I keenly feel how he hold someone dear so I’m filled with heartrending sorrow with the words “If only in my dreams”.

　ケリー・クラークソンの「My Life Would Suck Without You」を初めて聞いたときは，あまりのカッコよさに衝撃を受けましたが，こんなにしっとりとしたクリスマス・ソングも歌えると知って喜びました。

  I was amazed when I hear her “My Life Would Suck Without You” for the first time because it was so cool, and I was also glad when I know she can sing a Christmas song so gently.

Xmas songs in the 2000s: 2000年代のクリスマス・ソングって？

　20世紀のクリスマス・ソングで大好きなものはまだまだたくさんありますが，２０００年代になると，急に選択肢が狭まります。そもそも自分自身が，今世紀の洋楽をあんまり聴いてないので当たり前です。それでも，とぼしい知識の中で自分が好きだと言えるものもあります。

　今回は，Ｒ＆Ｂの歌姫，アシャンティの「ヘイ・サンタ」です。わずか２分に満たない曲ですが，とても可愛らしくて，ワクワクします。

  There are still plenty of Christmas songs that I love very much produced in the 20^th century.  However, when it comes to 2000s, the choice is narrowed down. The reason is quite obvious because I haven’t listened to the Western music so much, in the first place. Even so, there are a couple of songs I can say I love it.

  The first one is “Hey Santa” sung by Ashanti, an R&B diva. This song is so short, almost less than 2 minutes, and very cute and exhilarating.

　この曲は，「アシャンティズ・クリスマス」というアルバムに収録されています。このアルバムには10曲のクリスマス・ソングが収められていますが，Ｒ＆Ｂだと思って聞くと，きっと拍子抜けしてしまいます。この中からもう１曲選ぶとしたら，２曲目の「ザ・クリスマス・ソング」です。ジャクソン５のそれよりもあっさりとした仕上がりですが，彼女の澄んだ，美しい声に聴き入ってしまいます。

  This song is contained in her album “Ashanti’s Christmas”. This album has ten Christmas songs, maybe you feel let down if you expect R&B sound to them. If I have to choose the next best, it must be the second song “The Christmas Song”.  It is rather simple and light as compared with Jackson 5’s one, and I listen attentively to her clear, beautiful voice.

Other Xmas songs I love: クリスマス・ソング，これもいいですよね。

　初めて聞いて衝撃を受けたクリスマス・ソングがあります。カーペンターズの「サンタが街にやってくる」でした。子どもの頃にラジオでエアチェック（死語？）してクリスマスが過ぎても聴いていた覚えがあります。

　まず，出だしの分厚いホーンの音で圧倒されますが，カレン・カーペンターの慈愛に満ちたボーカルで，一瞬で童心に返ってしまいます。コーラスの響きに心温まり，間奏では，あまりにカッコいいサックスにしびれます。

　There is a Christmas song that I was amazed by when I hear it for the first time. 　   The song was “Santa Claus is coming to town” by Carpenters. I recorded it when it was aired on radio in childhood and kept listening it even after Christmas Day.

  The deep sound of the brass section at the first part of the song is overwhelming, then Karen Carpenter’s voice which is full of affection makes me return to the innocence of childhood in a blink. The chorus part is heartwarming and the saxophone sounds so cool at the interlude that listeners freak out.

　カーペンターズには，１９７８年発売の「クリスマス・ポートレイト」というアルバムがあります。このアルバムにももちろん「サンタが街にやってくる」は入っているのですが，自分が聴いていたのとは全く違う，アップテンポのバージョンになっています。1974年に発表されたシングル・バージョンはスローでしっとりとしていて，自分が聴いていたのはこちらの方でした。

  Carpenters released an album titled “Christmas Portrait” in 1978. This album contains “Santa Claus is coming to town”, of course, but this one is quite brisk and totally different from the one I used to listen to. The single version which was released in 1974 was slow and gentle, and it was exactly the one I used to listen to.  

　このアルバムの中で，もう一つ選ぶとすれば，「ファースト・スノウ・フォール / レット・イット・スノウ 」のメドレーです。可愛い木管の音が舞い降りて，楽しげなカレンの声が入ります。二つの曲の境目もとても自然で，最後まで楽しいクリスマス気分を味わえます。

  If I have to choose another song from this album, that should be a medley “The First Snow Fall/ Let It Snow”. The cute sound of the woodwind section came down first, then Karen’s voice starts. The relay from the first song to the second is so natural and you can enjoy the merry Christmas atmosphere until the ending.

I somehow love Xmas songs: クリスマス・ソング。なぜか聴いてしまいます。

　クリスマスに特別な思い入れはないのですが，クリスマス・ソングは大好きです。

　ずいぶん前に，「クリスマス・ソングは一つのジャンルだ」と書かれた記事を読んだことがあります。確かに，クリスマス・ソングは，聴いたらクリスマス・ソングとすぐに分かります。当たり前のようですが，よく考えると不思議です。　

　It is not that I’m deeply attached to Christmas, but I somehow love Christmas songs. I read an article that said “Christmas song is one of the music genres” a long time ago. It is certain that you can see a Christmas song is a Christmas song as soon as you hear it. That may sound natural but when I come to think of it I feel it strange.

　数あるクリスマス・ソングの中で，特に好きなものがいくつかあります。自分にとって一番に心に浮かぶのは，ジャクソン５の「ママがサンタにキッスした」です。まだ１２歳のマイケル・ジャクソンの伸びやかな声がとても可愛らしくて，子どもらしい勘違いを，気持ちよく歌い上げているのにワクワクします。

  There are some favorite Christmas songs among others. The one comes into my mind first is “I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus” by Jackson5. Michael Jackson was only 12 years old so his relaxed voice was very cute and I’m, even now, exhilarated when I hear him singing a boy’s childish misunderstandings heartily.

　この曲が入っているアルバムは，ずばり「クリスマス・アルバム」です。収録されている１２曲のどれも素晴らしいのですが，もう一つ挙げるとすれば，３曲目の「クリスマス・ソング」です。マイケルではなく，お兄さんのジャーメインが歌っていますが，コーラスが美しく，目を閉じて耳を傾けると，クリスマス・イヴの雪の冷たさと部屋の中の暖かさが，外の闇と家の中の明るさが，心の中に浮かんできます。

　The album which contains this song went straight to the point: “Christmas Album”. Twelve songs in it are all fantastic, but if I have to choose another favorite song and it should be the third one “Christmas Song”. This song was sung by Jermaine, Michael’s brother, and you can enjoy beautiful chorus so the images of a Christmas Eve, such as freezing feel of snow and the warmness inside of the house, or darkness of the outside and the brightness of the inside, come into your mind when you close your eyes and into it.

　もう５０年近く前の曲ですが，懐かしくはあっても，古くは感じないから不思議です。

　I certainly feel nostalgia for these songs, but it is strange that I don’t feel it’s out of time at all, even though they were released almost 50 years ago.

I’m wondering about it: 顔出しＮＧのアーティスト

　前回，ライブの感想を書いたコレサワさんをはじめとして，ここ数年，顔出しＮＧのアーティストが増えているように思います。

　何度かこのブログでふれたずっと真夜中でいいのに。（以下，ずとまよ）もＡＣＡねさんがどんな方なのか，全く分かりません。他にも，ラブリーサマーちゃんやサイダーガールなど，多くのアーティストが顔出しＮＧにしています。

　For the last few years, I have an impression that some sort of artists who doesn’t show their faces on the media have increased, like Koresawa who I mentioned last time about her live concert.

　I don’t know what ACAne is like at all, she belongs to Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni, hereinafter referred to as ZutoMayo, the band I also mentioned a few times before. In addition to them, there are many other artists who won’t show their faces on the media such as Lovely Summer Chan, Cider Girl and so on.

　戦略としての顔出しＮＧが，話題性として一時的にプラスに働くことは間違いありません。実際，ずとまよについては，その謎めいたところにも自分は惹かれています。上に挙げたアーティストの楽曲は本当に素晴らしく，その実力は疑うべくもありません。でも，もっと人気があってしかるべきなのに，もっと多くのメディアで取り上げられるといいのに，とつい思ってしまいます。

　I’m sure that strategically not showing their faces could have a positive effect on getting popular temporarily. In fact, I am attracted by ZutoMayo due to their mysteriousness. The songs of the artists I mentioned above are really good, so there is no doubt about but they have great skills. Even so, I sometimes feel that they should be more popular than they are now or taken up by the media more.

　今回，コレサワさんのライブに行って，はっきり感じたことがあります。コレサワさんの素顔を知って，ますます好きになれたということです。コレサワさんのお顔が好みだったからとか，かわいかったからというだけではなく，やっぱり声だけではもの足りないということだと思います。その声が発されている顔を，表情を楽しみたい，それが一番の理由です。だからと言って，これからはメディアに素顔で出てほしいというわけでは絶対にありません。ライブに来た観客だけがその素顔を見れるというのも，一つの戦略と言えます。ずとまよも１月にライブが予定されているようですが，それを観にいける人が本当にうらやましく思います。でも，ライブに行けない人にも少しだけ素顔の魅力が伝わるような，上手い戦略はないのかなぁ，と勝手に悶々としています。

  When I went to Koresawa’s live concert, there was one thing I clearly felt then, it was the fact that I come to like her all the more as a singer by seeing her true face. it was not that she was a good looking girl or so cute, the point was that I just wanted to enjoy her face, I mean, expressions on her face when she was singing. It is definitely not that I want her to appear on the media showing her face. It can be said that it is a good strategy if only the audience who actually goes to her live concert can see her true face. ZutoMayo is going to have a live concert in January, too, I really envy the people who can go to the concert. I’m a bit frustrated wondering whether they don’t have some strategies that they can make someone who can’t go to the concert feel their attractiveness of their true face.

I enjoyed live music: コレサワさん ワンマンツアー2018「コレでショー」in 福岡

　ライブを観て，決定的に好きになりました。

　１２月８日（土），福岡のDRUM Be-1で行われたコレサワさんのライブに行きました。「コレでショー」～仲間編～と銘打たれたこのライブは，全国７か所を巡るツアーの福岡公演でした。

　「可愛い！」「可愛いよね！」。コレサワさんが登場した瞬間，周りで聞こえたささやきです。ＭＶではアニメかかぶりものでしか登場しないコレサワさんのライブ，一体どうなるのかワクワクしながら，御本人が現れるのを待っていました。

　Seeing her perform live made it certain that I admire her as a singer.

  On Saturday, December 8^th, I went to the live concert of Koresawa held in Fukuoka. This concert is part of the live concert tour “Kore de Show” with her small circle of friends visiting 7 places in Japan.

  “She is so cute!” “Yes, absolutely” I heard people murmur around me. I had been excited and wondering how the concert would go while waiting for her to appear on the stage because she always showed up on MV as an animation character or with a full face mask of the character.

　素顔で登場されたコレサワさんは，思ったより小柄で，可愛くて面白くてパワフルな，教室で隣の席になったら好きになってしまいそうな女子でした。とび跳ねながらアコギを弾いておられました。大阪弁のＭＣは可笑しみにあふれていて，何度もクスクス笑いました。

  Koresawa, who appeared without the mask, was shorter than I thought, cute, funny and powerful, sort of a girl I might have a crush on if she sat next to me in a class. She jumped up and down while playing the acoustic guitar. Her MC in Osaka dialect was hilarious so I giggled many times.

　バンドの構成は，コレサワさんのアコギにエレキギター，ベース，キーボード，ドラムというシンプルなもので，ドラム以外は女性ばかりです。力強い，迫力のある演奏でした。ベースのなかむらしょーこさんは，福岡出身で，会場に来られているお母様が，福岡名物「むっちゃん万十」を差し入れしたことが，「東京コロッケ」のあとに面白おかしく語られました。なかむらしょーこさんは，木村カエラさんや井上陽水さんなど，多くのアーティストのライブやレコーディングに参加されているようです。

　The players were Korewasa herself playing the acoustic guitar, a guitarist playing electric one, a bassist, a keyboardist, a drummer, so it was simple as a band, and they are women besides the drummer. Their performance was vigorous and powerful. The bassist Nakamura Shoko is from Fukuoka and it was told hilariously that her mother came there and gave them a box of sweets called “Muttyan Manjyu”, a specialty in Fukuoka, after the song “Tokyo croquette”. Nakamura Shoko have joined some live concerts or recordings of Kimura Kaera, Inoue Yosui and many other artists.

　「初めて福岡に来たときはお客さん10名でした」とコレサワさんが感慨深く語られました。今回はチケット350枚，完売だったようです。

「ｓｓｗ」や「彼氏はいません今夜だけ」など，自分が好みの曲はもちろん，あまり聴き込んでいなかった曲もすごくノレました。アンコールは自分が一番好きな曲だったので大喜びでした。とても名残惜しく，帰り道にまたアルバムを聴きました。このライブでコレサワさんのパフォーマーとしての素晴らしさと同時に，楽曲のよさがあらためてわかりました。次の機会が楽しみです。

  “The number of audience was only ten when we came to Fukuoka for the first time” Koresawa said with deep feeling. This time 350 tickets were sold out.

 I was carried away not only with my favorite songs like “ssw” “Kareshi wa Imasen Kon-ya Dake” and so on, but also with some songs I didn’t listen to so much. I was really glad because the encore was the song I love best. I wistfully left the venue and I listened to her album again on my way home. I deepened the impression that Koresawa is a great performer and her songs are really good through this live concert. I’m really looking forward to the next chance I can enjoy her live performance.

Good cocktails in my favorite bar: 仏蘭西屋の美味しいカクテル 「ヨコハマ」

（2020年7月現在、残念なことに仏蘭西屋は閉店しています）

　以前，「カミカゼ」というカクテルについて書いたことがありました。いかにも日本的な名前のこのカクテルは，実はアメリカ生まれということでした。仏蘭西屋のメニューをめくると，ずばり日本の地名が名前として付いているカクテルに出会えます。「ヨコハマ」です。

　I wrote about the cocktail “Kamikaze” in this blog before. That cocktail seems really just like Japanese one with that name, but actually it may be from America. You can find a cocktail with just a name of a place in Japan when you look over the menu of France Ya. The cocktail is “Yokohama”.

　メニューをめくっていて「ヨコハマ」を見かけるたびに，つい注文したい気になりますが，すぐにためらってしまいます。見た目にも美味しそうなこのカクテルには，実はクセのあるお酒が入っているのです。ペルノー，またの名をアブサンです。ペルノーはフランスでの商品名とのこと。初めてアブサンの入ったカクテルを飲んだ時は，その独特な甘苦さに顔をしかめたのを覚えています。「客船のバーテンダーが考えたらしかよ」とマスターが教えてくれました。自分でも調べてみましたが，極東航路の客船で，そのバーテンダーが誰か，国籍すら全く不明の模様です。

　Whenever I see “Yokohama” in the menu, I feel like ordering it but I always hesitate to do so. This cocktail looks really tasty but it contains a spirit which has a peculiar flavor. Pernod also known as absinthe. Pernod is a brand name from France. I remember when I had a cocktail which contained absinthe for the first time and I winced at the strange sweetness and bitterness of it. “This cocktail was invented by a bartender who worked on a passenger liner” the bartender told me. I also checked it out by myself only to know that the passenger liner was on the far east run, and there wasn’t any information about who the bartender was or even what nationality he or her was.

　レシピは，ドライ・ジン２，ウォッカ１，オレンジジュース１，グレナデン・シロップ１，そしてペルノーを少々です。久しぶりに頼んでみました。一口含むと，ほんのわずかしか入っていないペルノーの香りが勝っているのがすぐにわかります。夕日のような美しい色合いを楽しみながら，美味しくいただきました。

　The cocktail is made of 2 parts dry gin, 1part vodka, 1part orange juice, 1 part grenadine syrup and  just a dash of Pernod. I ordered it for the first time in a long while. With just the first sip, I could feel the scent of Pernod was overpowering even though it was used just a little. I drunk it with relish enjoying the coloring like the sunset.
