ファンであるだけに厳しい目で見がちです。そんな自分でも自信をもって推せます。007シリーズ最新作、「ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ」は、いいものを観たという気持ちで映画館を出ることができる、すばらしい出来栄えでした。
I tend to have a judgmental attitude toward this series because I’m an old fan of it. Although I am someone like that, I can recommend this movie with confidence. This movie called No Time to Die, the latest episode of 007, was so good that I left the movie theater with great satisfaction.

ダニエル・クレイグによる00７第一作の「カジノ・ロワイアル」は、それまでのシリーズのマンネリ化を痛快に打破する、名作というに値する作品でした。今見返してみても、そのクオリティには息を飲む思いがします。それでも、第3作の「スカイ・フォール」では、ジェイムズ・ボンドの生い立ちに焦点を当てすぎた、私小説的な展開にがっかりしたのは事実です。その流れが4作目までは感じられただけに、第5作がどうなるのか、期待と不安が半々でした。
Casino Royale, in which Daniel Craig appeared as 007 for the first time, deserved to be called a masterpiece because it definitely got out of the rut that this series had been in. I watched it recently for the second time and I found it fabulous again. However, I was disappointed by the third episode called Skyfall because it focused on the background of James Bond and himself too much. I felt the same way toward the fourth episode again so I had mixed feelings of hope and anxiety before I watched the fifth episode.
不安はいい意味で当たっていました。この第5作での007は、より一層プライベートな動機で行動します。そうせざるを得ない状況が巧みに設定されています。そして、それは物語を面白くするという意味で、完全に成功しています。がっかりしなかったのはなぜでしょう。以前の作品は、過去に焦点をあてていたのに比べ、今回は現在の、さらには未来につながる何かを守るために奮闘するジェイムズ・ボンドの姿を描いていることに、共感できたからかもしれません。過去に追われていたボンドが、未来の為に走っている姿に、応援したい気持ちがどんどん高まりました。アクションシーンについては文句のつけようがありません。結果的に期待を超える出来栄えでした。
It was just as I had thought, in a good sense though. In this episode, 007 carries out everything for private reasons even more. The plots are exquisitely woven so that he cannot help doing so. Consequently, that setting successfully makes the story enjoyable even more. Why wasn’t I disappointed this time? That’s because, in my opinion, they depict James Bond trying to protect some people who exist now and their future in this episode whereas they had focused on his past before, so I could easily empathize with Bond this time. Somehow I came to feel like cheering for Bond while watching him running for the sake of someone’s future, even though he had been chased by his own past before. Action scenes are so impressive. I can safely say that this movie was definitely better than I thought it would be.
しかし、結末はあまりにもショッキングです。信じたくない終わり方です。これでは、ダニエル・クレイグの007というよりも、シリーズそのものが終わってしまいます。それでも、エンドロールの中で出てくる、「ジェイムズ・ボンドは帰ってくる」の言葉に救われました。何より、タイトルの「ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ」は「死ぬときじゃない」とも訳せます（死ぬ暇がないとも読めますが）。信じて待ち続けます。
However, the ending is so shocking. It has a kind of an ending that I don’t want to believe is true. It seems like not only Daniel Craig’s 007 ends but also the series itself may end as well. Even so, I was relieved when I saw these words, “James Bond will return” in the credit roll. Plus, ‘No Time to Die’, the title of this movie, read as ‘It’s not the right time to die’(it can also be read as ‘there is no time to die’, though). I’m going to wait for the day he will come back.
