小沢健二さんの魅力って何でしょう。フリッパーズ・ギターをリアルタイムで聴いていた世代にとっては、間違いなく特別な存在です。小沢健二さんと小山田圭吾さんの２人が生み出す楽曲は、遊び心にあふれていて、ネオアコにソフトロック、ロックにソウルにファンクにハウスと、その当時の若者が、心惹かれる要素が満載でした。それだけに、彼らのファン層は、お洒落なオリーブ少女から、オタク的な音楽好きまでとんでもない厚みがあったように思います。

I wonder what kind of attractiveness Kenji Ozawa has. I’m sure that he is someone special for the generation who used to listen to Flippers Guitar’s music at that time. The songs, which were produced by Kenji Ozaw and Keigo Oyamada, were quite fanciful and full of many kinds of music such as neo acoustic, soft rock, rock, soul, funk, and house music, so young people were fascinated by their music. That’s why they were supported by incredibly wide range of people, from fashionable girls who read a magazine called “Olive” to music geeks.
フリッパーズ・ギター解散後の小沢健二さんは、様々な音楽の要素を自身の楽曲に落とし込む姿勢はそのままに、驚くほどポップな方向へとばく進したように感じます。ソウルフルな１stアルバム、「犬は吠えるがキャラバンは進む」はともかく、２ndの「LIFE」は、歌謡曲と呼びたいくらいキャッチーな音が詰まっていました。このアルバムから小沢健二さんを知った人々は、ミュージシャンというより、アイドルと思ったとしても不思議でないと思います。そして、このアルバムを通じて、ソウルやヒップホップをお茶の間にまで浸透させたという点で、彼の功績は大きいのではないでしょうか。

After the band broke up, Kenji Ozawa produced so many pop songs using elements of many kinds of music just as he had done before. Leaving aside his first album called “Inu wa Hoeru ga Kyaraban wa Susumu”, the second album called “LIFE” was full of really catchy songs. I guess there’s no wonder that some people who knew him for the first time through this album might recognized him as an idol singer rather than musician. Maybe we should be grateful to him for making many people know how good soul music or hip hop are through this album.
今回のアルバム「So Kakkoii 宇宙」は、一聴すると、当時のポップな小沢健二さんの集大成のように思います。先月に配信されたシングル、「彗星」は、「LIFE」のエッセンスそのものを聴いているような気持ちになります。２曲目の「流動体について」は、ストリングの使い方が「僕らが旅に出る理由」を思わせます。７曲目の「神秘的」の優しさはどうでしょう。ストリングで構成されたこの曲は、童謡や子守唄のようにピュアな響きがあります。１０曲目の「薫る」（労働と学業）のイントロは、ソウルの名曲「Hypnotize」を思わせるもので、「ラブリー」と同じワクワク感があります。

His latest album called “So Kakkoii Uchu” sounds like, at first, a compilation of pop music he aimed at that time. The single “Suisei”, which has been distributed online since last month makes me feel as if I were listening to the essence of the album “LIFE”. The second track called “Ryudotai ni Tsuite” reminds me of another song called “Bokura ga Tabi ni Deru Riyu” due to the sounds of strings. I’m impressed by the song called “Shinpi Teki” because it has a calm atmosphere. This song, which is played only by strings it somehow sounds pure like children’s songs or a lullaby. The introduction of the tenth track called “Kaoru”(Rodo to Gakugyo) sounds like the introduction of “Hypnotize”, a popular soul music, and it makes me thrilled as much as “Lovely”, Ozawa’s song contained in “LIFE”.
このアルバムは聴く人を選びません。小沢健二さんがここで示したのは、ポップの先にあるもっと普遍的な何か、子どもからお年寄りまで、皆が楽しめる音のような気がしています。
This album is quite easy to listen to for all the people. What Kenji Ozawa shows us here is something more universal and ahead of pop music, which everyone, from children to old people, can enjoy.
