鮮烈な印象が残る快作です。ネットフリックスで人気の相撲ドラマ、サンクチュアリを視聴しました。このところ、海外ドラマばかり観ていましたが、日本のドラマも頑張ってるなと嬉しくなった作品です。
This is an awesome TV drama that made a vivid impression on me. I watched a Netflix drama called Sanctuary, which describes young sumo wrestlers and is quite popular now. I've been watching TV dramas from abroad recently, but I found this drama proving recent Japanese dramas are still good, so I was glad.

青年力士の名前は清。北九州で生まれ育った彼は幼少の頃、寿司屋を営む父を誇りに思っていました。しかし、店が潰れ、母が家を出て以来、無気力な父との二人暮らしに鬱屈を抱えたまま、荒んだ青春を過ごしてきたのでした。
His name is Kiyoshi. He was born and raised in Kitakyushu, and he looked up to his father who used to run a sushi restaurant in his childhood. However, the restaurant went bankrupt and his mother left, since then he has lived with his father, who has been irritatingly lethargic, and become delinquent.
力士になればカネを稼げる、という言葉を真に受けて相撲部屋に入門した清ですが、もちろん現実は甘くありません。ろくに四股も踏まず、親方にもタメ口をきくような清に対する兄弟子たちの稽古は、いじめと言っていいような凄絶なものでした。その後、白星を重ねたことからくる慢心と増長、それに対する一層の反発、父の入院と、事態は悪化する一方の中で、大敗北を喫した一つの取組が彼に変化をもたらします。
He heard that sumo wrestlers earn big money and he took it seriously so he joined the stable but soon found it not true. He doesn't practice enthusiastically at all, and is always rude even to the stable manager, so his seniors train him harshly to the extent of bullying. After that he wins some bouts in a row and ends up getting swell headed and overconfident, and such attitude makes the seniors offended all the more, then his father gets hospitalized, so it seems that everything goes bad for him. But a severe lose in a bout finally changes his attitude.
土俵を舞台としたサクセスストーリーとして、極上の仕上がりと言っていいです。息をもつかせぬ展開にワクワクします。登場人物の巧みなキャラ付けと配置、キャスティングについては、絶妙というほかありません。

This is a fantastic success story of a sumo wrestler. Every plot is so exhilarating. The characterization and the casting are exquisitely well done.
