子どもの頃、朝鮮の方々への理由の無い蔑視が、確かに自分の中にありました。「冬のソナタ」以来、韓国発の様々なドラマや音楽を通じて、それが薄れてきていたのは間違いありません。そして、このドラマを通じて、自分の中で隣国に対するリスペクトが不動のものとしてついに確立したのを感じています。
I surely looked down on Korean people for no reason in my childhood. I've changed through a lot of Korean dramas or music since the drama called 'Winter Sonata' for sure. And now that I've watched this drama, I perfectly respect the neighbor country.

歴史における屈辱的な出来事を正面から描いたこの作品は、それらのことは既に過去に克服されたものに過ぎ無いことを示す一つの証拠でもあるのでしょう。しかも深刻ぶった重苦しい雰囲気などなく、最高に楽しめる娯楽作品です。登場人物それぞれのキャラクターが際立っていて、１人１人がいとおしくてなりません。
This drama depicts humiliating things in their history straightforward so I have a feeling that they've already overcome those things. The vibes of this drama is not too serious, it is rather a great entertainment. Each character is so attractive and lovable.

The main character called Eugene Choi, an American soldier, played by Lee Byung-hun is so fascinating. He is quite strong and sometimes humorous. I even felt that He could play 007 as an Asian actor.
ヒロイン役のキム・テリの気高い清純さに心を奪われます。撮影当時、二十代後半だったとのことですが、十代にしか見えません。アクションシーンも素晴らしく、銃を持つ姿にしびれました。
The noble, pure character of the heroine played by Kim Tae-ri is breathtaking. She was in her late twenties when they shot this drama, but she looked like in her teens. Her action scenes were awesome and she looked so cool when she took a gun.
自分にとってもっとも印象的な登場人物は、日本刀を持ち歩く裏社会の人物、ク・ドンメでした。当時の身分制度の最底辺からのしあがったこの人物の複雑な生い立ちこそが、その時代の混迷を象徴しているように思います。彼を演じたユ・ヨンソクの殺陣の見事さに圧倒されました。
The most impressive character for me was a gangster who always has a Japanese sward called Gu Dong-mae. He was from the lowest rank of the society and his complicated, unhappy upbringing exactly shows the chaos of that era. The sward-fight by Yoo Yeon-seok, the actor who played Dong-mae, was overwhelming.
このドラマに匹敵するような日本のドラマはちょっと思い付きません。負けずに頑張ってほしい。そんなことを思う時点で自分はやはり時代遅れなんだと思います。
I cannot come up with a Japanese drama that can match this. I wish there could be such a good Japanese drama. I know such a comparison shows how outdated I am.
