1999年にヤングユーから出版された短編集の表題作です。タイトルだけで岩館真理子さんらしさを感じてワクワクします。このお話は、ちょっと謎めいた女の子と、とってもお人好しな青年が出会ってからの、たった1日の出来事を描いたものです。
This work is a title piece of an anthology of short stories which was published as Young You Comics in 1999. I was exhilarated only by the title because it sounded like Mariko Iwadate. This is a story about the day and night that a mysterious girl and a boy, who is too kind, have spent since they met.
満月の夜、一人の女の子が月を見上げて歩いていました。突然、「そこのきみ危ないっ」という声を聴いたあと、彼女が目を覚ましたのは病院でした。気を失った理由は、頭上に一人の青年が落ちてきたためでした。月に見とれていたこの青年は、坂の上の欄干から身を乗り出しすぎてうっかり落ちてしまったのでした。南川有（ある）という名の青年は、女の子に謝罪し、言葉を交わす中で、彼女が記憶を失っていることに気付きます。彼女が何者なのか、2人は協力して手掛かりを見つけようとするのですが……。
On one night with a full moon, a girl is walking alone looking up the moon. She hears a voice shouting, “Hey, you, watch out!”, and then she comes to herself in a hospital. The reason why she passed out is that a young guy fell on to her. The guy was gazing at the moon, too, and leaned out of the railing up on the slope.
この物語で印象的なのは、ところどころで、中原中也の詩「湖上」が使われていることです。
One thing I feel impressive about this manga is that a poem called “Kojyo (on the lake)” by Chuya Nakahara are cited in some parts.
ポッカリ月が出ましたら、
舟を浮べて出掛けませう。
波はヒタヒタ打つでせう、
風も少しはあるでせう。
If the moon pops out
Let’s go out on a boat
The rippling waves would lick the side of our boat
There would be a breeze
沖に出たらば暗いでせう、
櫂（かい）から滴垂（したた）る水の音は
昵懇（ちか）しいものに聞こえませう、
――あなたの言葉の杜切（とぎ）れ間を。
It would be dark offshore
The sound of water dripping down from the oars
would be something familiar with for us
――while you stop talking
月は聴き耳立てるでせう、
すこしは降りても来るでせう、
われら接唇（くちづけ）する時に
月は頭上にあるでせう。

The moon would listen attentively to us
It would also come down a bit closer to us
The moment when we have a kiss,
the moon would be above us

この詩のもつ静かな情熱が、一見淡々としたこの作品の中に満ち溢れています。自分の名前も思い出せない女の子は、ひとまず「のばら」と名乗っていたのですが、しばらくして、本名が「のりこ」であることを思い出します。同時にいくつかのこと、小さいころ湖のそばで花を摘んでいたこと、庭に花を植えながら母が言った一言、など、断片的な記憶を取り戻します。母の言葉というのは、「のりちゃんのほっぺたも早くこんなピンク色になるといいねえ。」なのでした。
The quiet, but passionate atmosphere of this poem prevails over this work, which rather looks unemotional at first sight. The girl, who can’t remember even her own name, temporarily gives her name as “Nobara”, but she can finally recall her real name after a while. She also recalls other memories in her childhood that, for example, she picked some flowers by a lake, her mother said something while planting flowers in the garden, and so on. What her mother said was, “I wish your cheek color may be pink like these flowers”.
のりこはふいに全ての記憶を取り戻します。しかし、記憶を失っていた時間のことは、すっかり忘れてしまっているのでした。彼女の手元には「木村のりこ」の名義で、コンビニから受け取ったらしい現像写真があり、そこには見知らぬ青年が写っています。
Noriko suddenly remembers all her memories. However, she loses the memories while she was amnesia. She somehow has some photos, which shows a guy she doesn’t know, and it seems like that she took them from a convenience store under the name of “Noriko Kimura”.
結末は、ちょっと切ないながらも、ささやかな希望を感じさせるものです。
The ending makes you feel a bit irritated, but also slightly optimistic.
詩のように美しい岩館真理子さんの世界を、また、新作で味わいたいです。
I hope to be able to enjoy Iwadate’s new work again, which is beautiful like a poem.
