マーガレットコミックスとしての，岩館さんの最後の作品は，「五番街を歩こう」です。このお話は三部作になっており，五番街という町の一角にあるコーヒーショップを中心にした人間模様が，一話ごとに主人公を変えながらつづられていきます。それまでには見られなかったこのような構成をとったという点において，ある意味冒険的な一作と言えます。また，猫好きな岩館さんらしく，作中のそこかしこに猫愛があふれていて，微笑ましい作品です。
The last work of Iwadate Mariko in Margaret comics was “Gobangai wo Arukou”. This work is a trilogy and each story describes human relationships around a coffee shop which corners on Fifth Avenue, but each story has a different main character. The structure which had never been seen before in her works makes the work kind of a breakthrough one in a sense. Plus, this work is so full of affection for cats, characteristically, that I feel this work somewhat heartwarming.
この作品以前の登場人物について，内気で夢見がちな女の子から，自己中心的でわがままな女の子へと変化が見られたと以前書きました。この作品では，そのどちらの要素も見られるものの，最も強く感じられたのは，主人公の女性たちの不器用さでした。大切な人へ，自分の過去を，愛を，秘めた想いを上手く伝えられない女性の姿がそこには描かれています。
もどかしいほどの不器用さゆえに，より魅力的に映る登場人物に，岩館さんの新作で会いたいです。
I wrote in this blog before that you can find the characters of girls in her works changing from shy, daydreaming ones to rather egoistic, selfish ones. Both characters can be seen in “Gobangai wo Arukou”, but I feel most there is the awkwardness of the women. What is described here is the women who can’t tell someone important for them about what they had been like in the past, the affection of them, or what they feel in their heart.
I want to see characters who is so awkward that you feel almost impatient but you also feel they are attractive all the more, in her new works.
