仏蘭西屋の美味しいカクテル:「スカーレット・オハラ」 Good Cocktails in My Favorite Bar: “Scarlett O’Hara”

There are plenty of movies that I want to watch but actually put on the back burner. “Gone with the Wind” was a movie just like that. About two years ago, I began to watch it to kill time on a holiday and ended up being impressed by it. This movie was amazingly exciting and totally different from what I had thought it would be, so three and a half hours, the length of the movie, passed in a flash. The main character is Scarlett O’Hara and her bohemian lifestyle is still refreshing even now, so it’s hard to believe this movie was released just after the Second World War had begun. The strength of the woman that this movie conveys to us somehow reminds me of the songs by Ringo Shiina.

The other day, I was looking through the menu in France Ya and found a cocktail named “Scarlett O’Hara”, which thrilled me with expectation. It is a cocktail based on the liqueur called Southern Comfort with cranberry juice and lime juice. The color, which is passionately red, makes me feel something dignified. Taking a sip of it, I smiled in spite of myself because it tastes sweet just right and pleasantly fruity.

Southern Comfort is a liqueur created in the southern United States as you can see from the name. According to Wiki, Janis Joplin, an American rock singer, loved it very much. I’m somehow moved when I think of the fact that she was also a woman who tried to live a wild life.
