夜にぴったりな曲って多いですよね。この季節，自分にとってすぐに浮かぶのは，エルボウ・ボーンズ＆ザ・ラケティアーズの「ア・ナイト・イン・ニューヨーク」です。８０年代の曲ですが，リアルタイムでは聴いていませんでした。これまで何度かふれたコンピレーションシリーズ「フリー・ソウル」の「ヴァイブス」というアルバムで初めて聴きました。
There are many songs that sound good especially at night. The one which comes into my mind first is “A Night in New York” by Elbow Bones and the Racketeers. It was released in the 80’s but I didn’t know it at that time. I heard this song in an album titled “Vibes”, which is one of the compilation series “Free Soul” I mentioned before, for the first time.

出だしのドラムに続き，華やかなホーンが鳴り響くと，もう心の中は，摩天楼そびえる夜の大都会です。モテモテの女性が，「あたしを喜ばせたいなら夜のニューヨークに連れてって」とひたすら歌いまくるだけの中身のない歌詞ですが，そこに８０年代の大らかさを勝手に感じてしまいます。あまりにもハマってアルバムを買いましたが，この曲だけが突出しているのが分かりました。
Following the dram at the beginning, splendid sound of the brass sections takes you to a night in the big city with soaring skyscrapers at once. The words are something empty because it is about a lady who seems very popular with men just saying “Take me to the night in New York”, but I somehow feel the easy-going atmosphere in the 80’s. I loved this song so much that I bought the album which contains this song soon and it turned out that this song was outstanding.
初めて聴いてから，もう20年以上たちますが，今でもかかるとワクワクしてしまいます。
It’s been over twenty years since I heard this song for the first time, but I still feel excited when I hear this song replayed.
