いいドラマの特徴として、全ての登場人物が愛おしくなる、というのがあると思います。本来ならば、主人公の同僚役など、脇役として強い印象を残さないように思えますが、このドラマではその一人一人の個性が光っていました。
My favorite dramas have certain characteristics in common, and it is the fact that those dramas makes me feel a lot of affection for all the characters. Usually, the colleagues of the main character are supposed to be just a supporting role so they wouldn’t make me feel great impression about them, but in this drama each of them gave a highly individual performance.
秀雄にとって、教師としても、みどりとの恋においてもライバルと言っていい存在が、谷原章介さん演じる久保勝でした。ぱっと見には、みどりに相応しいのは久保であると、視聴者としても納得してしまいそうになるほど魅力的でした。みどりから見事に振られる久保ですが、いいドラマにおける振られ役と言うのは谷原さんぐらい男前の方が面白いということを改めて実感しました。谷原さんと言えば、NHKの大河ドラマ、「新選組」における伊東甲子太郎役も印象に残っています。
There is a guy who can be called a rival for Hideo as either a teacher or a guy who has a crush on Midori, and his name is Masaru Kubo played by Shosuke Tanihara. At first sight, he is so attractive that he even makes viewers feel convinced he will most likely marry Midori. Kubo is eventually refused by Midori, but I realized again that someone who is supposed to be dumped in a drama should be such a good-looking guy like him because it makes the story exciting even more. Speaking of Tanihara, I remember a drama called ‘Shinsengumi’ in which he played a very clever but fishy guy called Kashitaro Ito impressively.
秀雄の病気に気付く最初の人物が、森下愛子さん演じる太田麗子でした。「私の目はごまかせないの」が口癖の彼女は、詮索好きでおしゃべりで、平気で人をこき使うようなところはあるものの、人一倍情が深く、秀雄の体調や、みどりの不安を気遣い、我がことのように心を痛めるのでした。森下愛子さんの演技は、そんな麗子の人柄だけでなく、麗子が抱く久保への好意も巧みに匂わせるものでした。森下愛子さんと言えば、TBSのドラマ「流星の絆」における戸神貴美子役で、素晴らしい演技をされていたのが心に残っています。
The first person who notices Hideo’s disease is Aiko Morishita played by Reiko Ota. She has a pet expression, ‘You can’t deceive my eyes’, and she is fond of prying, talkative, and kind of a slave driver, even so actually warm-hearted very much, worrying about Hideo’s condition and Midori’s uneasiness as if it were her own affair. Plus the performance of Aiko Morishita conveyed Reiko’s affection for Kubo to viewers skillfully. The name of Aiko Morishita reminds me of her great performance in a drama called ‘Ryusei no Kizuna’ by TBS, in which she played a woman called Kimiko Togami.
もう一人、どうしても取り上げたい人物がいます。浅野和之さん演じる教頭の古田進助です。学園ドラマで典型的な、校長や保護者の顔色ばかり窺い、自己保身にひた走るタイプの教頭を見事に演じておられます。それだけに、ドラマの後半、秀雄の病気を知ってから見せる意外な優しさには、思わず胸が熱くなり、涙がこぼれました。古田さんも、「僕シリーズ3部作」全てに出演されています。いずれの役も甲乙つけがたいですが、「僕の歩く道」において、草彅さん演じる主人公にロードバイクの楽しさを教える、コーヒーショップ店主の役柄が印象的でした。
There is another guy who I can’t help mentioning, and the person is the vice-principal, Shinsuke Furuta, played by Kazuyuki Asano. He skillfully played a typical vice-president in a drama set in a school, he always tried to gauge the principal or students’ parents’ feeling from their expression and was motivated by selfish reasons. That’s why his unpredictable kindness to Hideo after knowing his disease made me so moved that I cried. Furuta also appeared in all the series of this trilogy. It is too difficult for me to decide which role he played is the best, but, in my opinion, the most impressive one was the café’s owner, who tells the main character played by Kusanagi how enjoyable road bike is in the drama called ‘Boku no Aruku Michi’.
