競争が苦手です。勝ちたい気持ちが薄い、というより負けず嫌いなのでしょう。負ける悔しさを味わうくらいなら、１人でテレビや映画を観たり、読書をしたりする方が断然楽しいと思うような人間です。
I don't like competition. I cannot say I don't like to defeat someone, but maybe I just hate to lose. I'd rather watch a TV show, movie or read a book alone than feel frustrated by losing.
そんな自分がボードゲームにハマりました。ドイツで考案された、カタンというゲームです。世界で最もプレーされているというこのボードゲームを知ったのは、今年のゴールデンウイークでした。
Nevertheless I'm hooked on a board game now. It is a game called CATAN, which was first published in Germany. It was not until the last golden week that I came to know this game, which is the one most played by people all over the world.
身内が帰省するのに、何かいい時間潰しはないか、というのがきっかけでした。ググってすぐに見つかったのがこのカタンです。楽天やアマゾンなどの評価が高く、クチコミに目を通すうちにやってみたくなり、注文ボタンを押してしまいました。
I was looking for something to enjoy at home with my relatives who live away from Nagasaki. I googled and found this game right away. I found it highly rated on some online shopping sites like Rakuten or Amazon, then I went through some reviews there and ended up clicking the order button.
届いた箱を開きボードを組んでみると、何だか難しそうで正直ひるみました。YouTubeの解説動画を見ながら探り探りやってみると、思ったより簡単です。最初のゲームが終わったときには面白さがわかって、立て続けにプレーしてしまいました。
When I opened the box delivered and set up the board, I thought it would be too difficult to enjoy. We first tried it watching YouTube commentary videos and found it quite easy. I realized how enjoyable it was by the time we ended the first game, so we couldn't help playing it again and again.
１ゲームに１時間以上を要するこのゲームですが、ゴールデンウィーク中10回以上プレーしました。３人から多いときには６人でやったのですが、ウケることに全敗でした。でも、不思議なことに何度負けても、悔しさより楽しさが残って次をやりたくなります。

Even though it takes over an hour to finish one game, we played it more than ten times during the golden week. We played with three to six players, and the funny thing is that I lost in all the games. It may sound weird but I really enjoyed each game heartily without bitterness no matter how many times I lost.
