前回のベン・シドランと併せて、もう一枚、友人はCDを送ってくれていました。1972年リリースのこのアルバムを手に取ってみると、まず、ジャケットに目を奪われます。写っているのは、笑顔の子どもたちと一人の女性です。子どもたちは、カリフォルニア州の小さな町、ミル・ヴァレーにあるストロベリー・ポイント小学校の生徒たち（当時4年生）です。そして女性の名はリタ・エイブラムズ、同小学校の教師だったとのこと。つまり、無名の一教師、ミス・エイブラムズが作った楽曲を、ごく普通の子どもたちが歌い、それを収録したものが、このアルバムということになります。
The friend of mine, who sent me Ben Sidran’s CD which I mentioned last time, also sent another CD to me. I was intrigued by the album jacket when I took the album in my hand. There are children smiling and a lady there. The children are the students of Strawberry Point elementary school, located in a small town called Mill Valley, California, and they were 4th graders at that time. The name of the lady is Rita Abrams, a teacher at the same elementary school. It amounts to this, that this is an album with the songs written by an unknown teacher and sung by ordinary children.

「天使」という言葉が浮かびます。優しさに溢れる音と歌声に、心が穏やかになります。クロディーヌ・ロンジェの楽曲から気だるさを取っ払ったような、と言うのは的外れでしょうか。エイブラムズ先生の声は、どことなくカレン・カーペンターを思わせます。でも、カレンの声が母性的であるのに対し、エイブラムズ先生の声には、やっぱり先生らしい優しさを感じます。
I associate the atmosphere with the word ‘angel’. The sounds and singing voices are full of tenderness and calm me down. I have a feeling that, I know this may be wrong of course, their songs have the same quality as Claudine Longet’s except for the sense of laziness in hers. Miss Abrams’ voice reminds me of Karen Carpenter’s somehow. However, Karen’s voice is full of motherly love, whereas Abrams’ is overflowing with the affection of a teacher.
最初のシングルはタイトルソングの「ミル・ヴァレー」で、1970年にリプリーズというレーベルから出されたそうですが、1曲目のワンダーは翌年にA&Mからシングルとして発売されたとのこと。ソフトロック好きにも響く1枚と言えます。「大草原の小さな家」にあるような、古き良きアメリカの空気がこのアルバムにはみなぎっているように思います。
Their first single was Mill Valley, the title song, released from a label called Reprise, but the first track ‘Wonder’ was released as a single from A&M in 1971. I’m sure you will like this album if you like Soft Rock. I have an impression that this album is full of good old America, which you can see in the drama called ‘Little House on the Prairie’.
