以前は洋楽が大好きでした。小さい頃は兄や姉の影響でビートルズやカーペンターズ，ディスコサウンド，オールディーズを自然と聞きかじり，80年代から90年代は, 友達に勧められたスタイルカウンシルやアズテックカメラ，ストーンローゼズなどのUKサウンドにワクワクしていました。それからフリーソウルコンピレーションにはまり，モータウンやフィリーソウルなど，聴く音楽の幅が広がりました。数年前まではドラマ「glee」のサントラがお気に入りでした。
I loved Western music before. I used to hear The Beatles, Carpenters, disco music, and oldies because my brother and sister listened to them when I was a boy. Then, in the 1980s and 90s, I was excited about what my best friend recommended, which were mainly UK sounds, like The Style Council, Aztec Camera, and The Stone Roses, I was then into free soul compilations so the range of the music I listened to was extended to, for example, Motown Records, Philly soul and so on. After that, until sometime several years ago, my favorite had been the soundtracks of “Glee”, the American TV drama.
ビートルズで一番好きなアルバムは「アビーロード」ですが，初期の頃のモータウンやロックンロール，リズムアンドブルースなどを扱ったシンプルなサウンドも大好きです。この「ティル ゼア ワズ ユー」はミュージカル中の楽曲のカバーということで，何かしら毛色の違いを感じさせます。ジョージ・ハリスンによるアコースティックギターの音がこの上なくさわやかで，その瑞々しさためか，子どもの頃から何度となく聴いているのに，今でも耳にするとワクワクしてしまう曲です。この季節にピッタリですね。
The album of The Beatles that I love best is “Abbey Road”, but I love their earlier sounds which includes cover songs from Motown, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues, too. This “Till there was you” is a cover song from a musical so somehow sounds unique compared to other songs. The acoustic guitar played by George Harrison is incredibly refreshing. I’ve listened to this song countless times but, even now, I still get excited whenever I hear it maybe due to the freshness of the guitar sound. This tune is really suitable for this season, isn’t it?
