もう何年も，何十回も聴いているのに不思議と飽きない曲はありませんか？USBメモリーにたくさんの曲を詰め込んで，ランダムで聞きながらドライブするのが好きです。飽きると消去していくのですが，ずっと残っていく曲もたくさんあります。中にはずいぶん昔の曲もあったりして，その一つにピッチカートファイブの「7時のニュース」があります。この曲が入っていたアルバムは1987年の発売ですから，もう30年も前の曲ですが，今どきの曲と並べてもなぜか遜色がなく，色あせない新しさがあります。
Don’t you have any song which you’ve listened to for many years or many times but you’ve never been tired of? I like driving my car listening to many tunes put in a USB memory at random. I erase songs that I become tired of but some songs are remaining on. Some of those are quite old and the one I’d like to talk about now is “News at Seven” by Pizzicato Five. The album including this song was released in 1987 so it is about 30 years old, but it is comparable with tunes of today and it never loses its freshness.
いわゆる渋谷系のピッチカートファイブは，フリッパーズギターなどとともに当時の若者たちにとって，おしゃれ感満載で，これを聴いてる自分はイケてると思わせるものでした。とはいえ，どちらのバンドも楽曲が本当に素晴らしく，時間の経過に耐えられるクオリティを生み出していたのだと思います。当時の自分は田島貴男さんが加入してからのアルバム「Bellissima!」がものすごく好きで，そればっかり聴いていました。「惑星」を聴いたときの衝撃は忘れません。でも，不思議と今でも飽きずに聴けているのは，１stアルバムの特に目立たない「7時のニュース」です。
ジャンルや新旧にとらわれず，いいと思う楽曲ばかりに包まれて車を走らせると，本当に音楽っていいな，と思ってしまいます。
Pizzicato Five which belonged to the so-called Shibuya Kei, Flipper’s Guitar was also one of them, seemed to be full of a fashionable sense and just listening to them made the young people feel themselves were cool at that time. However, songs produced by both bands were really great and they created the excellent quality which has been able to stand the lapse of time. I really loved an album called “Bellissima!” which was released after Tajima Takao joined Pizzicato Five, and I was really into it. I can’t forget how I was amazed when I first listened to a song titled “Planets”. Even so, the song I’m still listening to without getting tired is rather inconspicuous “News at Seven” from the first album.
When I drive my car getting absorbed in my favorite tunes without caring whether they are new or old, I realize music makes me really happy.
