脚本家の飯田譲二さんには、いつか小曾根さんが音楽を担当する映像作品を作りたいという長年の願いがあったとのこと。この作品の脚本を書くにあたり、飯田さん自らが小曾根さんに依頼して、それを実現したそうです。
Iida Jyoji, the scenario writer, had longed for Ozone to work with him in producing a film or a video. Iida finally asked Ozone to work together and realized his dream when he took on the job of writing the scenario for this drama.
飯田譲二さんが書かれているライナーノーツによると、録音した２１曲中（CDに収録されているのは19曲）、１曲をのぞき、全て小曾根さんの作曲だそうです。全曲ともスタジオでの一発録りで、６曲は即興だった模様。それらの曲は、ドラマの中の場面を想定して作られたものですが、その使われ方は本当に効果的です。小曾根さんご自身の文章も載せられていて、ドラマのサントラというよりも、自身の一つの作品としての思い入れが伝わってきます。
According to what he wrote in the liner notes, they recorded 21 songs (the CD somehow has only 19 songs) and all the songs were composed by Ozone except one. All of them were one-take recording in a studio, and 6 songs of them were improvisation. Those songs were made for specific situations in this drama and, in fact, they were used effectively very much. Ozone also wrote liner notes and you could tell from it how much he was enthusiastic about those songs, they might have been something more than mere sound tracks for him.
小曾根さんの作品ではない１曲というのは「アローン・アゲイン」、言わずと知れたギルバート・オサリバンの大ヒット曲です。ここで歌っているのは、もともと英語教師として来日したというティファニーさんというシンガーです。この曲のドラマでの使われ方は大変印象的でした。その場面には、なんと小曾根さん自身が出演しておられます。
The song that Ozone didn’t compose was “Alone Again”, the hit song by Gilbert O'Sullivan as everyone knows. The singer who sang the song here was a woman called Tiffany, she came to Japan as an English teacher originally. This song was impressively used in some scenes in this drama. To my surprise, Ozone appeared in one of those scenes.
エンディングテーマは山崎まさよしさんの「真夜中のboon boon」でした。とってもキャッチーなこの曲は、とってもくせになりました。この曲とともに流れるエンドロールの映像も洒脱でコミカルでクスクス笑いながら喜んでいました。遊び心いっぱいのこのドラマには、山崎さんが登場する場面もあって、そこでの生瀬さんとのやり取りにも笑顔になりました。
The closing theme song was “Mayonaka no boon boon” by Yamazaki Masayoshi. This song was really catchy and somewhat addictive. The video of credit roll with this song was quite stylish and comical so I giggled a lot. This drama was somewhat full of fanciful mood and there was a scene in which Yamazaki appeared and the conversation between Namase and him made me smile.
