「ダイヤモンドは永遠に」を読み終えて，今度は「フォーユアアイズオンリー」を読み始めました。シリーズの中では2冊しかない短編集の一つで，5つのストーリーからなっています。最初の話は“From a view to a kill”というもので日本語訳では「薔薇と拳銃」というかっこいい題になっています。
I’ve finished reading “Diamonds are forever”, and now started reading “For your eyes only”, which is one of only two collections of short pieces in the series, and it consists of five stories. The first one is titled “From a view to a kill”, 「Roses and guns」 in the Japanese version, I feel it sounds cool, doesn’t it?
この中で，ボンドは任務でフランスにいるという設定で，食べ物や飲み物，店についての彼のこだわりが2ページにわたって綴られています。その一節に「…No, in cafés you have to drink the least offensive of the musical comedy drinks that go with them, and Bond always had the same thing -an Americano- Bitter Campari, Cinzano, a large slice of lemon peel and soda.」とあり，いつもドライマティーニばかり飲んでいるボンドの意外な好みを知ることができて興味深いところです。行きつけのバーで自分もよくカクテルは飲みますが，アメリカーノは飲んだことがありません。次にはぜひためしてみたいです。
In this story Bond is in France and his fastidiousness about foods, drinks and restaurants are described for two pages. There is a passage that goes‘…No, in cafés you have to drink the least offensive of the musical comedy drinks that go with them, and Bond always had the same thing -an Americano- Bitter Campari, Cinzano, a large slice of lemon peel and soda.’, I think that it’s quite interesting to know about unexpected favorites of Bond who always enjoy Martini. I often have some cocktails at my regular bar but I’ve never had Americano yet. I really want to give it a try next time.
