　スカパラの音を初めて聴いたのは、フリッパーズ・ギターの「クールなスパイでぶっとばせ」でした。間奏のところで「ゲストが登場します。東京スカパラダイスオーケストラ!」と紹介され、そこからのトランペットソロが、めちゃくちゃカッコいいと思ったのを覚えています。それから聴き始めたスカパラの曲で、当時なぜか特に気に入っていたのは、２ndアルバム「ワールドフェイマス」に入っている「セサミストリート」でした。

Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - Baby Elephant Walk / Sesame Street

　It was when I listened to the song called “Cool Spy on a Hot Car” by Flipper’s Guitar that I heard the sound Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra played for the first time. At its interlude, they were introduced as in “Our guests are here. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra!”, then the trumpet solo sounded so cool. Since then I began to listen to their tunes, and the tune I liked best at the time was “Sesame Street”, which is contained in their 2^nd album called “World Famous”.

　デビュー30周年記念アルバム、「ツギハギカラフル」のディスク２はインスト盤になっています。こちらでは、本来のインストバンドとして、演奏の魅力を発揮しています。

　ドストライクなスカから、映画音楽のようなムードのある曲まで、バラエティに富んでいます。本来、インストはあまり好みではないうえに、レゲエやスカを退屈に感じがちな自分でも、スカパラの曲には気持ちよく乗れるから不思議です。初期のアルバムと比べても、音の厚み、編曲の面白みが増していて、飽きずに聞かせる仕上がりになっているのを感じます。

　This disc consists of varied tunes from typical ska to something sounds like screen music. I originally don’t like instrumental so much, and even I, who tend to feel bored by reggae or ska, feel groovy by their tunes. I’m sure that their sounds became deeper, and the arrangement is getting catchier compared to their early albums, so I can’t get enough of them.

　自分は未視聴ですが、DVDやBlu-rayの方には、様々なアーティストとのコラボ映像が満載の模様です。

　I’m afraid I haven’t watched the DVD nor Blu-ray, but it seems to contain a lot of collaboration with various artists.
