気休めは言わない、でも、誠意をもって励ましてくれる、そんな理想のお医者さんがここにいます。小日向文世さん演じる医師、金田勉三は秀雄（草彅剛）の主治医です。第一話で、秀雄に病名を告知する際の、医師としての決然とした態度が、とても印象的でした。
Here you will find a doctor who never says mere words of consolation but encourages with sincerity. The doctor, Benzo Kaneda played by Fumiyo Kohinata is the one who is in charge of Hideo (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi). In the first episode, His decisive attitude in informing Hideo about his disease was quite impressive.
受診のため、定期的に病院を訪れる秀雄にとって、金田は病気のことだけでなく、短い余命の過ごし方についても相談できる相手です。金田はアドバイスをするというよりも、秀雄の考えを受容し、相槌を打ちながら励そうとします。時には、不謹慎に聞こえる冗談さえ言えるほどに、秀雄の信頼を得ているのでした。
Hideo visits the hospital to see the doctor on a regular basis, and he consults Kaneda about not only his disease but also how to spend his short time left. Kaneda receives Hideo’s thought with a nod rather than gives advice to encourage him. Kaneda wins Hideo’s confidence to such an extent that he sometimes even makes an imprudent joke.

余命が1年しかないのに結婚することは、果たしていいことなのか、当人が悩むのは当然です。金田医師はそれについての良しあしは語りません。あくまで、秀雄の選択を大切にしようとします。正しい答えは何かではなく、選んだ答えで後悔しないように努力すればよいことを、秀雄とともに自分自身が教えられたような気がして、勝手にワクワクしてしまいました。秀雄の病状が進んでからは、無理をしないように気遣う気持ちが勝り、ときには秀雄の考えに異論を唱えることもあります。それでもそこには、誠実さと優しさが溢れているのでした。
It’s quite natural that a person, who has a fiancé even though he has only a year to live, wonders whether it is right or not to get married. The doctor doesn’t try to judge whether it is right or wrong. He just respect Hideo’s opinion. I was somehow excited because I felt as if I were taught that what matters is making an effort so as not to regret about my own choice rather than trying to choose the right answer. After Hideo reaches the terminal stages of cancer, Kaneda eventually opposes Hideo’s ideas because he worries about Hideo’s condition. Even so, his remarks are full of sincerity and kindness.
君に自分で死ぬ権利なんかない
1年って28年よりも長いですよね / そうだよ
大杉連さんと同じく、小日向文世さんも、このドラマの3部作全てに出演しておられます。いずれにおいても、まるで違う人柄を見事に演じる姿に、役者としての凄みが感じられます。特に「僕と彼女と彼女の生きる道」における、草彅さん演じる主人公の上司役には強烈な印象が残っています。また、御自身初主演となったドラマ、「あしたの、喜多善男」では、主人公の二重の人格を天才的に演じ分けていました。こちらも素晴らしいドラマでした。
Fumiyo Kohinata appeared in all the series of this trilogy as Ren Osugi did. In each series, I can see he is a talented actor because he played totally different personalities perfectly. I was really impressed particularly by his role in ‘Boku to Kanojyo to Kanojyo no Ikiru Michi’, he played the boss of the main character played by Kusanagi in it. In the drama ‘Ashita no Kita Yoshio’, in which he played the main character for the first time, he even exquisitely played a person with a dual personality. This drama was also fantastic.
次回は、秀雄の主な同僚の教師たちについて触れたいと思います。このドラマの面白さに拍車をかけているのが彼らだからです。
