歌詞の内容がセクハラだと、ここ数年、物議をかもしているクリスマスソングです。アメリカやイギリスでは、実際に放送を控える動きがあるようです。確かにそう受け取れる歌詞があるのは事実です。でも、そんな批判は行き過ぎのような気もします。自分は、この歌が大好きです。
I heard this Christmas song has been stirring up a controversy because the lyrics are suggestive of sexual harassment these years. In the United States or the United Kingdom, they seem to hold back from airing this song. It is true that some part of this song sounds that way. Even so, I have a feeling that such kind of criticism is too much. I love this song for sure.

確かに、歌詞だけをみると、いやがる女性を無理やり引き留めてどうにかしようとしている、いやらしい男性の姿が描かれているように見えます。でも、互いに惹かれている男女の駆け引きに過ぎないようにも思えます。恋をしている男女の、微笑ましいやりとりととらえるのは浅はかなのでしょうか。
The lyrics surely sound like that an annoying guy is trying to make a lady who wants to go home stay at his place. However, they also sound a mere love game between a guy and a lady who are falling in love with each other. I wonder if it is silly to take this as just a lovely conversation between lovers.
1944年に書かれたこのデュエット曲は、これまで無数のアーティストにカバーされてきた模様。近年では、レディ・ガガとトニー・ベネット、イディナ・メンゼルとマイケル・ブーブレなどによるデュエットが有名です。大好きだったテレビドラマ「グリー」でも、この曲は歌われていたし、以前取り上げた映画「エルフ 〜サンタの国からやってきた〜」でも、エンディング・ロールにこの曲が使われていました。
セクハラをするような人々による被害が、こんなとろこにも及んでいるのが残念です。
This song was written in 1944 and has been covered by so many artists since then. Lately, some duet by like Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Idina Mentzel and Michael Buble, are popular. This song was used in my favorite TV drama called Glee, and in a movie called Elf, I mentioned in this blog before, they used this song as an ending theme.
I’m sorry for this song because those criticism are a kind a reputational damage caused by some people who do sexual harassment.
